About The Wally Dug
The Wally Dug is a pub in Edinburgh's New Town, on Northumberland St, with its bar on a basement level. Its own Campbell's Ale is brewed in Peebles, and a weekly showcased whisky called the Dug Dram sits within an extensive scotch selection. The taps rotate, with cask ales from local breweries. The room has booth seating, and the pub opens daily. Jumbo Jenga is available for anyone who wants a game alongside a drink.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the whisky, especially the weekly "Dug Dram," which several describe as an affordable way to try something new, with one calling the scotch the best of their life. Close behind are the cask ales and rotating taps from local breweries, and friendly bar staff who chat and in one case remembered a second-visit drink order. The dog, the antiques, booth seating and Jumbo Jenga also come up, along with a covered outside area for drinking and smoking. A few reviewers describe it as a basement-level local pub. Criticism is mild but specific. One visitor found a Saturday afternoon soulless and said Kays Bar has more life, another saw the barman leave the bar unattended for about fifteen minutes, and a third could not tell who brewed the two cask ales because the pump clips did not say. One reviewer returned a pint taken from the bottom of the barrel, and the barman happily swapped it.

“A revisit to an old haunt when I went for something to eat close by. I used to work just down the hill and we often popped in as we passed on the way home. It's list none of it's charm. A great local pub.”

“Had two cask ales, neither had I heard of, pump clips didn't make it obvious who brewed them. In the evening it seems like a locals pub, but I didn't feel unwelcome.”

“Lovely backstreet bar away from the centre of Edinburgh, friendly staff and a warm welcome”

“A fantastic traditional pub with a good selection of alcohoicl beverages. I visited a couple of times during the seasonal break and enjoyed the friendly and polite customer service. An enjoyable friendly environment where you can meet people to engage in polite conversation. Dog friendly too. There is an outside covered area where you can have a drink and smoke which means a lot to customers who have their own individual method of relaxing. The interior is very pleasing with antiques adorning the various areas. Competitive prices too .Highly recommended.”

“Pleasant city centre bar. The beer is good and the staff are friendly and efficient. Had to return a pint because it was at the bottom of the barrel and the barman was happy to change it. This is a good sign that they care about their customers. Booth seating is a nice and comfortable.”
