Quick info
About Gourdie Croft Beefeater
Gourdie Croft Beefeater is a steak house on Kingsway W, on the outskirts of Dundee just off the A90 and near the Tay Bridge. The menu runs to steak and burgers, and the burgers can be ordered without cheese. A braille menu is available for diners who read braille. The restaurant sits next to a hotel and serves breakfast to its guests, including those with prepaid breakfast. A continental breakfast is set out on the table, and a cooked breakfast buffet has to be ordered specially. When the dining room is very busy, the team seats diners in the bar. The car park outside the front entrance requires you to register your car, and signs there warn of parking fines for cars that are not registered.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish diners name most, described as very nicely done and quite acceptable standard fare. Close behind is praise for friendly, efficient front of house staff, hot plates from the kitchen, and a team that removed cheese from a dairy-free burger before the table noticed. Complaints centre on the manager, called rude by several reviewers, including one refused breakfast after a dispute over room numbers and one who wondered whether his manner was racist. One reviewer reports croissants being topped up by hand without tongs. Two diners describe parking fines after missing signs, one saying an appeal was refused. Others cite fatty gammon, a thinly sliced chicken melt, no peppercorn sauce, and chairs falling to bits.

“Unfortunatelly my last visit wil be the last. The staff was great, although shame noone mentioned I need to register car for the carpark right outside of the front entrance. I visited on 2nd August with 3 small children so as you can imagine my eyes were on them and did not spotted sign regarding the car park rules. So what seems nice stop of for quick lunch ,which I spent fair amount of money to feed 4 of us, all turned up to be bad decision that now cost me additional £60 plus fees of parking fine! Great way of showing gratitude for visiting your place.”

“I have never been made to feel so unwelcome at a place that is a ‘hospitality’ establishment. The manager was downright rude, arrogant to the point of me actually wondering if he was being racist! Everything was too much trouble, leaving me open mouthed at his outbursts. Even my children are better behaved in a restaurant setting as paying guests! I hear this place is due to close. I wonder why???”

“Our issues began Saturday during the England Under-19 Ice Hockey Tournament. After being seated for dinner, the manager was immediately rude — interrupting my food order mid-way to serve another customer simply because I paused briefly. He never checked on us during the meal, and it became clear leaving his shift was the priority. I let this go and said nothing. The following morning at prepaid breakfast, the same manager was on shift. My booking covered two rooms; my son had already used one room’s breakfast with his hockey team, which apparently caused a problem. Despite this, we gave both room numbers and were told to sit anywhere. As we walked three paces toward the seating area, the manager muttered under his breath — clearly audible — “just walk away whilst I’m talking to you then.” Given we had been told to sit down, I turned and asked him to repeat himself. He did. When I challenged his attitude and referenced the previous evening’s behaviour, I was told to leave the restaurant and would not be served breakfast. I proceeded to the Premier Inn reception and requested a full refund, where I was informed the restaurant is closing in September. With management of this standard, that is entirely unsurprising. This treatment of paying guests is absolutely unacceptable, and I will not be the only customer making a formal complaint.”

“Food was ok, service was fine, got a parking ticket for £70 for staying an hour. Been there dozens of times and never saw any signs. Apparently there are signs everywhere, I honestly didn't see one! Won't be going back as called the restraunt re ticket, snippy response. Appealed ticket ( was in the car park less than an hour) appeal refused.”

“Beef Eater located in the outskirts of Dundee closer to Tay Bridge Booked with premier inn unlimited breakfast but only continental breakfast is available on the table. Unlimited cooked breakfast is not available as buffet needs to be ordered specially. Staff are very rude & not helpful at the waiter or the branch manager walks in takes the order without mentioning anything. He brings the croissants from the kitchen & replenishes the tray with his hands without using a tongue. Food & hygiene is a question in this place”
