About Gidi Grill, Dundee
Near the Caird Hall in the centre of Dundee, Gidi Grill is a steak house and grill where the kitchen turns out ribeye, rump and lamb chops alongside a wider grill menu of ribs, pork belly bites, burgers and kids meals. The format suits both casual and group dining, with a private dining room at the back and a terrace out front for warmer days. King prawn skewers open the menu, and the draught list includes Peroni alongside the food. The meat basket, a sharing plate of chicken, loin chop, sausage and rump with a side such as fries or Jollof rice, anchors the grill offering. The entrance is at street level with step-free access and wide doors. Pre-booking is advised, and walk-ins can expect a wait at busy times.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the meat basket, a mix of quarter chicken, pork, sausage and steak, with several praising the jerk sauce and the tender, well-seasoned chicken. Close behind are the ribs, burgers, king prawn starter and fried plantains, and one reviewer swapped fries for Jollof rice and liked its spiced depth. Reviewers also mention friendly staff, a relaxed atmosphere, and help with allergies and gluten free buns. The recurring complaint is value: several find portions small for the price, one calls the Jollof rice an undersized side, and another notes the steak and chicken pieces varied in thickness between baskets. Service draws mixed reports. One diner describes a server who took the order and vanished, with water never arriving until a second server was asked and no one offering refills. Another waited over an hour for food. One reviewer felt pushed on what to order, and one suggests pre-booking to avoid a wait. A birthday diner recalls the servers singing and dancing before leaving.

“The food was amazing and the servers were friendly and helpful. We went early lunch so it wasn’t very busy but inside feels nice. We had the ribs, pork belly bites and a burger, all of them tasted amazing.”

“This was my first time trying an Afro-Caribbean restaurant, and Gidi Grill in Dundee delivered a fantastic experience from start to finish. We kicked things off with their aperitif selection. I opted for their Campari-based twist on a classic Negroni, which arrived beautifully presented with fresh orange, cucumber, and a cherry garnish—vibrant colours and perfectly balanced flavour.. For the main meal, the menu had plenty of tempting choices, but I settled on the meat basket. It was an incredible feast featuring a succulent quarter chicken breast, tender loin chop, a large grilled seasoned sausage, and rump steak cooked to a perfect medium as requested. The basket comes with a side, and they happily let me swap out the standard fries for their traditional Gidi Jollof Rice. The tomato and spiced pepper base gave the rice amazing flavour and authentic depth. I was also offered a starter deal on the king prawn skewers for just £8 alongside the basket, which I gladly added. Everything arrived hot together—the king prawns were juicy and full of flavour, and the entire meat basket with the side came in under £30, representing outstanding value for the quality and portion size. They also have a solid draught beer selection, so enjoying a fresh pint of Peroni with the meal topped it off nicely. Completely step-free street-level entrance with wide doors and smooth internal flooring throughout the dining area. Generous floor spacing between tables, offering plenty of clearance and turning radius for an electric wheelchair. Ideally situated right in the vibrant city centre, just moments from the Caird Hall. There is also an attractive outdoor seating terrace out front, making it a great spot to sit outside and enjoy the view on warmer days. Exceptional food, welcoming service, and genuinely thoughtful wheelchair access. Highly recommended whether you are trying Afro-Caribbean cuisine for the first time or looking for a quality meal in central Dundee.”
