Quick info
About Birkhill Inn
Birkhill Inn is a family restaurant in Dundee, housed in a rural 19th-century hostelry at 124 Coupar Angus Rd. The kitchen makes its steak pies in-house, and they anchor a pub menu that also covers burgers, lasagne and loaded potato skins with chilli. Gammon comes with eggs and chips, and a seafood platter sits alongside a prawn salad for those who want something lighter. The restaurant opens daily, and walk-ins are seated without a booking. Prawns also appear as a starter, ahead of the pies and grill dishes.

Customer Review Summary
The steak pie is the dish reviewers raise most, called famous and homemade, with one diner saying it tasted just like their mum used to make it. One reviewer calls it a must for anyone eating here. Close behind are the generous portions, which several describe as huge, and friendly, efficient staff even when the pub is busy. Other dishes praised include the seafood platter, the prawn salad, loaded potato skins with chilli, gammon with eggs and chips, mozzarella sticks that stayed stringy, and the lasagne. The criticism is milder and specific. One diner's steak arrived closer to medium than the medium rare ordered, with hard eggs. Another found the prawn salad undressed and the burger enjoyable but nothing more. One calls the food basic fare, and the decor is described as rustic and a little dated. The pub is repeatedly described as busy, yet a party of 30 reports that the food arrived swiftly.

“We googled places to eat near Camperdown and found the fabulous Birkhill Inn. A true delight to find this unexpected gem. Great friendly and attentive staff made us feel very welcome for Sunday lunch. The magnificent famous fabulous steak pie really is a must for anyone eating here. I will be back next time I come to the area and highly recommend the Birkhill Inn to all ages and group sizes. My only regret was not taking a few more photos to post to show the quality of both food and venue. Keep doing what you do, Birkhill❤️”

“A hidden gem in plain sight, the Birkhill is honestly one of the best pub restaurants I have ever been to. The decor is rustic and a little dated, but you don’t go to a pub like this for the decor, you go for the amazing service, fantastic food and generous portions. My other half ordered the seafood platter, whilst I decided to order the famous speak pie. Both were incredible - top marks for quality, freshness, presentation, portion size and that home made touch you just don’t get in some places. The steak pie lived up to the word ‘famous’ and it was made just how my mum used to make it. It took me right back to being 9 years old. Honestly, incredible and very reasonably priced too. If you are staying nearby, come here, you won’t be disappointed!”
