About Bean on the Green Café
Bean on the Green Café is an independent, family-run cafe at 8 Fordington Green in Dorchester, a short walk from the town centre. The mum makes the savoury food and her daughter bakes the cakes, which are handmade on site and include banana bread. Breakfast runs to a Full English, and the coffee list includes an iced caramel latte. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are on the menu too. Inside, seating is split between an upstairs and a downstairs room, and the small interior is decorated throughout. The cafe takes walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary
Coffee is what reviewers raise most, from a lovely Americano and an iced caramel latte to a couple calling it the best they have tried. Close behind are the savouries and bakes. The sausage roll and ham and cheese croissants are described as delicious, the banana bread as something special, and a fresh baguette also gets a mention. Cakes are called incredible and handmade on site, and one reviewer says a mother makes the savoury food while her daughter makes the cakes. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and helpful, and reviewers mention the quirky interior and the tables outside on the green, where one visitor sat with a dog and another calls the cafe a cyclist pit stop. The main caveat is one reviewer finding the vegan and vegetarian options good but limited. Another watched a sausage roll get offered to several customers before reaching the right one, and took it with humour. One dog owner reports staff giving their black lab a rubdown with a wet towel to cool him off.

“Waiting for the car to get new tyres fitted at National Tyre (a Halfords Company.....) I stumbled upon this lovely little cafe and all of its quirky contents - staff included. A lovely Americano and a rich, crumbly and packed sausage roll proving to be just the restorative I didn't know I needed - even if it was proffered by the waitress to everyone before finding its way to its rightful consumer... hilarious, as I watched it unfold, and no grudge at all, it should probably write its own travel memoir).”

“Hello 👋 Tiny village atmosphere. Outside on The Green, time stands still. Inside, cosy, creative chic. The array of cakes looked delicious 😋 Simply the best coffee and lovely helpful service.”

“Good, but fell short of the 4.9 rating . It had good but limited vegan and vegetarian food options. When the weather is nice the outside seating on the green is lovely.”
