About The Stable Door

The Stable Door is a modern British restaurant in Doncaster, on the High Melton college site. Sunday lunch comes as table service rather than a carvery, and The Feast is the plate that puts sirloin, pork, chicken breast, gammon and pigs in blankets together. The kitchen cooks British food with a pub-classic focus, and desserts include a mojito meringue and a Smores cheesecake, with cocktails served alongside the puddings. Afternoon tea is on the menu for those who prefer a lighter sitting. Booking is essential, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday lunch is what reviewers return to most, with diners praising the portions and singling out The Feast, a platter of sirloin, pork, chicken breast, gammon and pigs in blankets, alongside a duo of beef with sirloin and brisket. Close behind are the desserts, with the mojito meringue and the Smores Cheesecake named as highlights, and a few add that the puddings and cocktails were equally tasty. Reviewers describe friendly, attentive staff, with one party of 14 and a birthday celebration both noting how welcome they were made to feel. Decor gets repeated praise, and one group who stayed from lunchtime until evening says they were never rushed. An afternoon tea for a wedding celebration was also described as beautifully decorated. The one recurring complaint is cost: a reviewer calls prices high but matched by quality, and singles out the beer as expensive at over six pounds a pint. Several say they plan to return, and one notes booking is essential for Sunday lunch.

“I would give 10 stars if I could. My wife and I have been visiting local places over the last few months to check out their Sunday lunches. This is without a doubt the best place we have visited so far. My wife used to work on the High Melton college site and we were unaware that The Stable Door was now there. I highly recommend a visit. This is table service not carvery but the portion sizes are perfect. The picture is called 'The Feast' We also had a mojito meringue dessert. That was incredible. Keep it up guys. And we'll done. We will definitely be returning with more people. Booking is essential”

“The food was absolutely out of this world! We visited for my wife’s birthday and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with genuine kindness and made to feel very welcome. A special shout-out to Jack, who took excellent care of us and helped make the occasion even more memorable. His friendly and attentive service really stood out. We had a lovely experience from start to finish and would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for fantastic food and outstanding service. We’ll certainly be back! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟”

“My wife and I had a truly wonderful evening and felt compelled to leave a review after such an enjoyable experience. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome, and the whole evening had a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere about it. The food was quite simply excellent — beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and clearly prepared with great care and attention. A gentleman by the name of Jack looked after us during the evening, and I must say, his service was quite exemplary. He struck exactly the right balance of being attentive without ever intruding, and nothing ever seemed too much trouble for him. He was polite, personable, and carried himself with a level of professionalism that is becoming increasingly rare to find. It was clear he took genuine pride in ensuring guests were enjoying themselves, and his efforts certainly did not go unnoticed. You can always tell when a place is being run properly, and everything here seemed to work seamlessly. The service, atmosphere, and overall standard were excellent throughout, and if Jack has the main hand in maintaining those standards, then it certainly shows. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience and one we shall remember fondly. We left very impressed indeed and would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment to others. We very much look forward to returning in the future. Geoff”
