Quick info
About Browns at the Buttercross
Browns at the Buttercross is a modern British restaurant at 8 Market Pl in Doncaster, cooking British dishes from scratch. The chef's table gives diners a seat close to the kitchen team, and a monthly set lunch menu comes with a wine choice included while the chef explains each dish. Breakfast covers avocado with poached eggs and tomato salsa, as well as a full English. For packed lunches, the kitchen makes scotch eggs, sausage rolls and salad boxes, and bread is displayed in the windows. At Christmas, a pre-prepared Christmas Dinner Box comes with vegetable extras. Allergens are displayed clearly, and gluten free items can be preordered and made separately. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most mentions, with reviewers describing avocado and poached eggs with tomato salsa and a full English, alongside great coffee, including an iced coffee one diner can't stop thinking about. Takeaway and pre-prepared food comes close behind: a Christmas Dinner Box with a light, tasty cheese souffle and turkey, a meal deal where the lasagne stood out, and scotch eggs one reviewer's husband says are nothing like supermarket ones. Others single out millionaires shortbread and a gluten free brownie, which staff said can be preordered. Reviewers repeatedly call the value good and the staff friendly and helpful, and one says the staff kept a place that could have felt pretentious relaxed. The only criticism is small: one reviewer found the Christmas box roast potatoes needed a little more roasting. Others describe a chef's table visit and a September lunch menu where the chef explained the components of each dish and the price included a choice of wine.

“Happened to nip in today as I noticed there was some beautiful bread in the windows, the allergens were displayed very clearly which made me wonder if they did any gluten free items ? The lovely ladies were so helpful and said I can preorder gluten free items to be made separately, they did have a gluten free brownie which was gorgeous. The iced coffee … my goodness it was lovely and I can’t stop thinking about it. I bought some scotch eggs, sausage rolls and a salad box for packed lunches. My husband said the scotch eggs are lovely and nothing like the supermarket ones. The atmosphere was fab, kind informative staff 🙏 thank you for being so welcoming and kind.”

“Just had a meal deal of two starters, main for two and two desserts. All the food was lovely but I have to say the Lasagne was amazing. When I collected the meal the staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend the meal deal and we will definitely be visiting again”
