About The Staff Of Life

The Staff Of Life is a pub on Princegate in Doncaster that fills its calendar with live entertainment. Live music and karaoke run on set nights, and a singers' night hands the microphone to anyone who wants to perform. Darts and dominoes evenings cater to players who prefer a game to a song, while a games afternoon gives the daytime its own activity. At the bar, a range of beers sits alongside flavoured vodka cocktails. Music, singing and tabletop competition each get their own slot, so the pub works as a place to join in as well as to drink.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the atmosphere and the live entertainment, with karaoke and live singers on certain nights getting repeated mention. One reviewer who sang a couple of karaoke songs got a great reception, and another says a Tuesday fills up fast because of the good singers. Close behind are the friendly staff and low prices, with a bar worker serving a big group quickly and one visitor noting cheap bitters. The beer range is called decent and fantastic, and a large outdoor seating area is mentioned for summer. Others describe a proper old pub, a games afternoon, and excellent food put on for a darts and dominoes evening. One reviewer wishes there were flavoured vodka, though a later update says there now are flavoured vodka cocktails. The one negative is a detailed complaint from a group of women who used the toilet before ordering. A man on the microphone pointed them out to the room, then said "bye ladies, it's always polite to ask", which left a friend with social anxiety uncomfortable and led them to say they would not return.

“Me and my friends when in to the toilet a few days ago as my friend has a medical condition which causes her to need the toilet a lot, we was going in there to buy a few drinks as soon as we walked in we got pointed out by a man on a microphone saying “hello lady’s” we said hi and went into the toilet and then the man said “yes sure use the toilet” in such a rude manner this made her very uncomfortable as my friend struggles with social anxiety and we had everyone staring at us as the man pointed us out to Everybody. about a minute later when we left the bathroom to go order some drinks the man then said on the microphone “bye ladies, it’s always polite to ask” Making out like it was a problem that we went to the toilet before ordering our drinks. This was a very uncomfortable experience for us and we will definitely not go there again.”

“Not been in here for probably 20 years! I visited with a group of mates between Christmas and New Year. Glad I did, it’s actually a cracking little pub, reasonably priced, decent range of beers and the atmosphere seemed friendly enough too. Guy behind the bar was decent, he got us all served pretty quickly given we were a big group. I’ll actually probably call in there again at some point in the future.”
