Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff, who are described as helpful and efficient even when busy, and the homely, tasty food that makes the cafe a favourite stop at the end of a walk. Breakfast comes up repeatedly, with one calling the small breakfast excellent value, and cakes are close behind, including a lemon meringue described as gorgeous and a cheesecake one visitor plans to try. A good cup of tea and ice cream are also mentioned, along with the views over the Pennines. Criticism is occasional but specific. One diner found the meat and potato pie mostly potato, thin, and not as the menu described, with chips fried too long and so-so coffee. Another wished for bigger cups and found the indoor seating less inviting, with wipeable tablecloths that felt dated. A third was bothered by table numbers being called out repeatedly as orders arrived. One reviewer notes that staff filled water bottles on a hot day, and another took away a free slice of cake.

“Been here twice now for breakfast at the end of our walk. Delicious food and friendly staff. Would definitely recommend a visit.”

“Tender, juicy, meat and potato pie.....not. I read the menu and what they advertise is most certainly not what arrives on your plate. Service was good, coffee was so so, but the food.....mmmm...maybe not, the pie looked like it had a pan resting on top of it all morning, it was just over half inch thick and predominantly potato, don't belive me, go and order it, and the chips deep fried beyond makers recommendations.”

“Very nice cafe, plenty of space, friendly staff. Small breakfast excellent value for the price. And they have cakes! They are a bit pricey but very good. I can't complain, I really very good.”

“Little Gem of a cafe. Food was lovely, staff all friendly and attentive, reasonable prices too. Plenty of parking spaces, outdoor & indoor seating, toilets for customers too. Lovely location and surroundings, great views over the Pennines and surround areas, plenty of info on walking & hiking trails too. Pub next door with large car park also. Bus stop opposite, not sure which service runs here. Look forward to calling in again soon.”
