About Cafe Twelve

Cafe Twelve is a family run lakeside cafe in Bolton, set in the grounds of Bradshaw Hall Fisheries on Slack Ln. The room looks over the fishing lake and Jumbles Reservoir, and chickens and ducks roam freely by the water outside. The menu covers breakfast, brunch and lunch, with poached eggs on smashed avocado on sourdough, pancakes and a club sandwich among the dishes. The cafe is licensed and runs a bar, and the team offers gluten free options. Dogs and muddy boots are both welcome, and dogs stay on a lead because of the free-roaming birds. The cafe sits on the edge of the Kingfisher Trail, which makes it a stop for walkers.

Customer Review Summary

Pancakes and waffles come up most. Reviewers call the American style pancakes well worth a long wait, and one family's reaction to the waffles was "wow". Close behind are the large cooked breakfast, a club sandwich called very very good, and an enormous crispy haloumi salad. One gluten free diner says staff offered to cook nearly everything gluten free except the pancakes. Several also praise the friendly staff, the coffee and cake, and the outdoor seating over the fishing lake, where ducks and chickens roam, dogs are welcome and muddy boots are accepted. The criticism is sharper but less frequent. One reviewer says the cafe has gone downhill in recent months, describing staff as hit and miss, one server as rude, and the food as slipping too. Another turned up at 8am on a weekend, as advertised online, found it closed and waited an hour. Service was slightly slow on a busy Mother's Day brunch. One family was given a complimentary pancake with fruit for their daughter, along with kids cutlery.

“Unfortunately this place has changed it's weekend hours if you turn up at 8am as advertised on its website and elsewhere youll find it closed . Park in the jumbles car park then utilise the short 15 min walk instead of early. Very comfortable place with great views of the fishing lakes , stunning and beautiful place to eat good food and service too . Only lost a star because we turned up at 8am and had to wait an hour.”

“Just been to Cafe Twelve for the first time after recomendation from friend. Menu really good and as I'm gluten free the staff offered to cook everything for me gluten free except pancakes. I opted for Crispy Haloumi Salad. It was enormous Very nice but couldn't eat it all. Friend Had poached eggs on smashed avocado on sourdough then opted for a pancake. We had to wait quite a while for them to cook the pancakes which we thought was odd as a simple pancake takes no time at all. These were not simple pancakes they were American style and well worth the wait. The staff were really friendly and helpful”

“A dog friendly, easy access, muddy boots permitted, spacious cafe and bar. Fantastic selection of food. Right on the edge of the Jumbles reservoir. Great for our walks, sadly our little dog Ozzy never got to see this place, but there are many dog visitors. Also a very useful outdoors cafe // caravan with tea, coffee, cakes and even cooked sandwiches at the weekend. Friendly bunch of chick's on tap (chickens).”

“Massively gone down hill unfortunately. Was great up until the last few months. Staff are very hit and miss. Some of the lads are pleasant but the girls are awful. The girl with the red hair in particular was so rude. Used to love going here but now it's not the same. Food gone downhill too so it's not even like you can say "but the food is good!:”

“What a great find. Lovely walks nearby and then a gorgeous spacious clean cafe with great staff who are all lovely and friendly. Really good fair pricing. Great coffee. Delicious cake! Above and beyond. Will be back time and time again. Great for dogs too! Clean toilets. Great outdoor space. Immaculate everywhere. The manager was really lovely too. Can't wait to come back. Edit: this place juat gets better. Today we got a complimentary pancake with fruit for our daughter and little touches like kids cutlery just make it even better! The service is exceptional.”

“Cafe Twelve Welcome to Cafe Twelve. Our newly renovated, family run cafe is based at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries. Set in the grounds of the fishery, overlooking one of our lakes and in the heart of the stunning Bolton countryside. Our licensed cafe offers breakfast, brunch and lunch in a bright spacious area, and we have an emphasis on providing quality food with good service. There is ample seating inside and a large outdoor area. There is also a car park on site. Our cafe is open to everyone and well behaved dogs are welcome (though we do ask they remain on a lead as there are free roaming chickens and ducks outside). We are ideally based for walkers sitting on the edge of the Kingfisher Trail and close to many of Bolton’s beautiful rese”
