About Cromer Tandoori Restaurant
On Church Street in Cromer, Cromer Tandoori Restaurant is a Bangladeshi restaurant that serves a traditional menu of curries, biryanis and tandoori dishes alongside the usual set meals and sides. The dining room takes walk-ins through the week and opens in the evenings, with the kitchen covering both dine-in meals and collection orders. The premises double as a takeaway, so food is available to order for people heading home. The team handles orders at the counter and the seating is set up for couples, families and small groups stopping in for a sit-down meal. The space has seen better days and shows clear signs of wear, with worn paintwork and tired furnishings throughout the front room.

Customer Review Summary
The single most repeated theme across these reviews is the bill: a majority of diners describe a service charge or extra amount being added at payment without being clearly shown, with several recounting a specific gap between their itemised order and the final card charge, and one diner reporting becoming unwell after the meal with cutlery that did not appear clean. Named dishes reviewers mention approvingly include the prawn biryani and prawn bhuna. Close behind, several returning visitors describe the food itself as lovely and friendly as the reason they come back, with one regular citing a decade of visits and another returning before the end of a holiday. A smaller cluster of reviewers describe the dining room as shabby and rundown, and one account reports the waiter as abrupt and the food as nothing special. The frequent and specific complaint about hidden additions to the bill carries the most weight here.

“WARNING – POSSIBLE OVERCHARGING, TERRIBLE FOOD, POOR SERVICE & SERIOUS HYGIENE CONCERNS! PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILL AND THE AMOUNT YOU ARE CHARGED VERY CAREFULLY! We were absolutely disgusted and seriously disappointed with our experience. We were charged more than we expected and only realised after leaving. After reading other customer reviews, it appears we are not the only people raising concerns about discrepancies between the bill and the amount actually taken during payment. What was particularly concerning was that the card machine was not clearly visible to us while the payment was being processed, meaning we were unable to properly check and confirm the exact amount before payment was taken. I have absolutely no problem with legitimate service charges, but any additional charges should be made clearly visible to customers before payment is authorised. In our opinion, given how poor our overall experience was, this place certainly did not deserve a service charge or tip. The food was extremely poor and nowhere near restaurant quality, in our opinion. We became very unwell after eating there, and the cutlery did not appear to be properly clean, which raised serious hygiene concerns for us. Honestly, we have had far better food from street-food stalls and Sunday-night pub meals. The service was also poor, and when you combine the food quality, cleanliness concerns and the issue with the payment, our experience was completely unacceptable. FINAL WARNING: AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. Based on our experience, we strongly advise people to take their money elsewhere. There are other options nearby, and in our opinion, this place is simply not worth the risk of leaving disappointed, feeling unwell, or discovering afterwards that you may have been charged more than you expected. CHECK YOUR BILL. CHECK THE CARD MACHINE. KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE PAYING BEFORE YOU AUTHORISE THE PAYMENT. HONESTLY, I WOULD RATHER GO HUNGRY THAN EAT HERE AGAIN. TAKE YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE. AVOID THIS PLACE!!”

“Date: Sunday, 30.08.2026 We were seriously overcharged! We ordered: • 1x Prawn Biryani – £12.95 • 1x Prawn Bhuna – £9.95 • 1x Plain Rice – £2.95 That comes to £25.85, plus the cost of one glass of cola. Yet we were charged £40.59! We didn’t realise until we had left and had a chance to look back at what we had ordered and what we were charged. So unless a single glass of Coke costs £14.74, something clearly doesn’t add up! And yes, if the person who served us today is reading this — you told us you were from Jagannathpur — shame on you. How can you knowingly overcharge customers like this? It makes me wonder how many other people may have been overcharged without even noticing. I expect an apology and a refund for the extra money charged. Otherwise, I would strongly advise people to carefully check their bill before leaving. Absolutely unacceptable. 😡👎🏻 **Also, I’ve now seen many other reviews from people reporting similar experiences of being overcharged. One person even said their bill was £67 but they were charged £100! Please check the other reviews yourselves and make your own judgement — but I would strongly advise everyone to carefully check their bill and the amount they are charged before leaving. AVOID!!”

“The food was good and on the whole the service was ok though a bit rushed... Dumping down of cutlery for us to arrange before the arrival of the main courses etc. As other reviewers have mentioned, at the end of the meal our bill of £73.80 suddenly got upscaled to £84.86 when the waiter declared "I'm going to add some service on”. I didn't want to let it spoil the meal, so just paid it. We laughed about it on the way back to the car, but it was quite odd and not the best way to finish our experience at Cromer tandoori.”

“We have been dining here for 10 years now, for celebrations and when we fancied a meal! Have always enjoyed the food, and friendly service.”

“Should be no stars. Beware of this place they put extra money on the machine without you knowing if you pay by card. Looks like a lot of people have had the same problem. Reporting to the police and trading standards and the news paper. The place is run down and grubby. Wonder what the kitchen is like. Avoid like the plague”
