About Aurora Bar and Restaurant

Aurora Bar and Restaurant sits on New Street in Cromer, set up so that families can eat while children use a play area off the main room, and dogs are welcome in the bar and a small part of the restaurant. Some tables look out towards the sea and Cromer pier. The menu leans on local seafood, listing Cromer crab salad and Cromer crab bonbons alongside a "Beer battered fish of the day" served with tartare sauce, and a vegan fish substitute made from banana blossom is available. Cocktails are part of the offering, and the room handles walk-ins through the week. Booking posture is set by the venue on request.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips is the draw reviewers raise most. One calls the batter the crispiest they have had and the fish perfectly cooked, and another praises the tartare sauce served with it. Close behind are the Cromer crab bonbons and crab salad, with seabass, a crab special and a fresh seafood linguine also singled out. Views of the sea and Cromer pier come up more than once, and several describe the staff as friendly and lovely. The caveats are real. One reviewer found the chips not the best and underfried, and thought food and drink prices were high. Another called the roast nothing special, described a long wait to give a drink order, said mains arrived straight after the starter plates were cleared as if they had been sitting under a lamp, and found the cocktails small. A third felt the non-fish menu lacks the love the fish gets. When a power cut hit during lunch, one reviewer says staff explained what was happening and handed out emergency crisps and bowls of olives until the food came.

“Food alright. Nothing special. Roast was clearly cooked and prepared and plated. Waited 15 mins to take drink order, waited 15 after starter plate to be collected and then mains came out immediately so clearly our dinners were ready but sitting under a lamp. Cocktails were normal priced but very small quantities. Nice restaurant and well placed but very average and certainly nothing special about it. Would I eat there again, probably not as nothing would draw me back really.”

“Aurora is fairly new as it opened in June of 2025, so my first time here. It is a bar and restaurant, and off the latter is a kids play area. From some tables in the bar and restaurant you get nice views of the sea and Cromer pier. I had fish and chips, mushy peas, tartar sauce and a slice of lemon for £19.95, and I was dining with a Vegan who had the Vegan version, which is a fish substitute made of banana blossom, which was £18.95. These prices are high and so were the drinks. I had a pint of Hawkstone IPA which was £6.50 and all the beers were around this price. The fish is stated on the menu as "Beer battered fish of the day". I think it was cod. The batter was nice and crispy.the chips were not the best, which I think was partially because they were cooking new potatoes, but also they could have done with being fried longer. The service was good and the staff friendly, and we enjoyed the food. Despite the high prices I would still give them 4/5. In summary, Aurora is a good trendy family restaurant, but pricey. One last thing to mention. Dogs are allowed in the bar, where you can dine, and in a small part of the restaurant.”

“After a day at the beach we wanted something to eat and came across this place and I'm so gutted I did, as I live in Manchester I won't be able to nip for the best fish I have ever had, honestly can't describe how good it was, the crispiest batter ever, and the fish was so perfectly cooked, chips and peas are the usual chip shop style but that tartare sauce paired with the fish is out of this world, the Cromer crab salad and the Cromer crab bonbons are a must!! Big shout out to Reece, one of the best hosts I've ever met, a delight of a chap. The owner squeezed us in as we didn't have a booking so big thanks for that, I have promised I will be back for that fish 🤞 hopefully not too long”
