About Old Hall

Old Hall is a pub in Sandbach, set in a Grade 1 listed building believed to date from 1656 that once served as the home of the Lords of the Manor of Sandbach. The building was renovated after a period of advanced dereliction, and the pub now fills it with plenty of indoor seating. The menu runs from small plates to larger meals, with a Sunday roast and gluten free options that include a gluten free suet pudding. Puddings come in small portions to go alongside coffee. The pub is open daily. Parking is by car park, which opens at noon and asks visitors to check in with their number plate.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the food at this restored historic building, with the Sunday roast, scallops, burger and lamb named as highlights, and the small puddings and coffee mentioned by several. Gluten free choices draw praise, including a suet pudding one diner's friend had not been able to eat for ages, and staff are repeatedly described as attentive and friendly. One group of ten was fitted in at the last minute. The sensitive renovation and the large, roomy interior come up often, and the ladies' toilets with a Chesterfield sofa earn their own mention. The main criticism comes from one lunch visit, where mains took a long time to arrive, the turkey Christmas dinner was disappointing with no Yorkshire puddings left and lacking flavour, and the fillet steak sandwich had too much ciabatta for the steak. A Mother's Day set menu with roasts was described as costlier than usual, though the food and service were still called great. The brownie and the black forest slice with boozy cherries closed that same lunch on a good note.

“Great building! We had several starters to share amongst us, which was great. Excellent service. Nice and clean. It's bigger than you think. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. Don't know about the men's toilets, but the women's is definitely a must see. Check out my video. Wonderful. Highly recommended.”

“A perfect venue for a family get together. It's like dining in history. The building is eye candy. Beautiful old architecture, tastefully renovated. Food was fantastic and the service was great. It's also a large place, so plenty of space.”

“Lovely pub with great food and excellent service. They managed to fit 10 of us in at the last minute with no problem, which was really appreciated. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the whole place had a great atmosphere. A special mention has to go to the ladies’ toilets. One of the most fabulous pub toilets I’ve seen! A huge space with a Chesterfield sofa… definitely not your average pub loo! 😊 Would definitely recommend and visit again.”

“Great atmosphere, food and so much choice for gluten free. The food as always was amazing. We had a burger which was so juicy and tender, a cheese & onion pie which they were happy to serve with salad rather than that stated on the menu and then the gluten free suet pudding something my friend hasn’t been able to eat for ages but she wasn’t disappointed at all. Two of the guests had small pud and coffee which is always a delight. Very attentive staff ,nothing too much trouble and very pleasant. Can’t wait to go again.”
