About The Peppermill Conwy

The Peppermill Conwy is a bistro at 26 Chapel St in Conwy, set just inside the town's castle walls and off the main street. The menu leans on small plates shared between the table, such as mussels with a sauce. Larger dishes include Conwy Valley rump steak with field mushroom and chips or fries, and a beef roast dinner is also on offer. Burgers sit alongside these for those who want something simpler. Homemade puddings finish the meal. The kitchen works with a short, bistro-style range rather than a long list. A selection of local beers, ciders and wines rounds out the drinks.

“Well, what a find. Not a huge menu, but we were still spoilt for choice. The husbands both enjoyed the burgers which were huge and full of flavour. We ladies could not decide, so we chose 4 small plates and shared. Stand outs were the mussels. The sauce was incredible. Also the gnocchi and mushrooms also fabulous sauce. Followed by delicious home made puddings. Off the main street, but definitely worth the effort to find. One of the most delightful meals we have had in Conwy. Good selection of beers and wines. The cost for the standard and quality of food, excellent value and worth every penny. We will definitely visit again. Thank you!”

“Fabulous food, great staff and lovely atmosphere tucked away in Conwy. I had the cod with corned beef hash and tender stem broccoli, absolutely to die for! I would go back just for this dish! Nice selection of beers and ciders to go with it as well. An amazing hidden gem in Conwy!”

“Oh dear oh dear Without doubt one of the worst dining experiences I have ever encountered. Poor selection of wine and that was just the start Mussels were good Rump steak with field mushroom and fries Totally inedible. The steak couldn't be chewed although cooked properly , the mushroom was cold and the fries were like scraps for the bottom of fryer . I asked to see the manager and the likeable young lady said that she was. When I complained about the food to my amazement she replied "that's as good as it gets" When I asked to see the owner I was invited into the kitchen and I explained my problem to which he replied "I'm by myself !!" Without looking me in the eye. Sorry guys but you wouldn't exist in my little town . I don't know where you got your rave reviews. We certainly wouldn't be visiting you again.”

“A little gem to be found here, a cosy warm friendly atmosphere. We went for Sunday lunch and we weren't disappointed. Senior front of house Andrew was extremely attentive and couldn't do enough for us, from start to finish, then came the food ... and wow what can I say, absolutely gorgeous, all the courses were so tasty and extremely well presented. We were blown away! Well done Simon and team 👏 Keep up the good work and we'll definitely be back.”

Customer Review Summary

Steak leads the praise, with diners describing the rump steak with grilled field mushroom as cooked perfectly to differing preferences and served in generous portions. Sunday lunch, including a beef roast, comes close behind, called fabulous with good portions. The pan roasted cod with corned beef hash and tender stem broccoli has its own admirers, one saying they would return just for it. Mussels and the mushroom gnocchi are singled out for their sauces, and burgers, homemade puddings and cheesecake also get mentions. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and several find the value good, though a few note the place takes some finding off the main street. One reviewer had a very different night: the rump steak could not be chewed, the mushroom arrived cold, the fries were poor and the wine selection was thin. When the complaint reached the kitchen, the reply was that it was as good as it gets, and the owner said he was working alone.
