Customer Review Summary

Value for money is the clearest throughline, with reviewers repeatedly citing deals such as the £5 afternoon mains, the Monday to Friday two mains for £9, and a £24 three course meal as reasons they return. Dishes singled out include a salmon, smoked haddock and prawn fishcake on spinach with a poached egg, a chicken dish praised as spot on, and a sharing starter of fish, chicken, mushrooms and onion rings. Close behind the praise sits a recurring carvery complaint: several diners describe arriving within the advertised serving window only to find the meat gone, including one who booked a 5:30pm carvery that had already finished and another turned away at 4pm despite carvery being listed until 6. Overcooked food is also raised more than once, from a medium rare steak served charred and flipped to hide it, to burnt children's pizzas and dry, tough gammon and steaks after a long wait. Service reports are mixed: many describe staff as friendly and helpful, though one recounts a bar manager telling her to sit and wait while a group of men were served first, an incident resolved when staff brought over a complimentary bottle of wine.

“Absolutely awful cleanliness throughout. Service from the team was polite but they are working in a pub that has not had money spent on it for 30 years.”
  • Paula Mrozek
“Awful children's meal with just 5 pieces of popcorn chicken on a wet through plate from undrained veg. Scrappy fatty meat and terrible roast potatoes. They did offer a discount and an apology though”

“Well that was some shocking service. We spent almost 200 pound between me and my daughter in law for our families.I ordered mine first and my drinks. The card wouldnt accept and it took a minute. Until a young lady cancelled the transaction to reatart it and then it worked. At which point the bar manager was huffing and made me feel very embarrassed. Unfortunately when my daughter in law went to order her food and drink she made the order and paid for it and the bar manager said. Go and sit down and wait for your drink until he had served a group of men! ( I beg your finest pardon!!) So shocked were wre we actualy sat down, then fumed and fumed some more. At which point the dreaded words came. Can we speak to the bar manager. A lovely young lady came over and placated us with a complimentary bottle of wine. We left happier but it did put a bit of a dampener on the celebration of my sons birthday 🎂 Go sit down lil lady there's mens drinking to be had round these parts !”
