About Heath Farm

Heath Farm is a carvery pub on Padgbury Ln in Congleton, with an on-site soft play area for children. The carvery comes with roast meats and seasonal vegetables, and a wider menu of mains and sides runs alongside it. The pub side has a bar and a separate dining area. Soft play carries its own entrance charge, which gives families with children somewhere to play during a visit. Events for children run at times such as Christmas and Halloween, including breakfast with Santa and SEN sessions. The pub is open daily, and food can be ordered through an app as well as at the bar or entrance.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what most reviewers come for, but opinions split sharply. Fans call it tasty and freshly cooked with generous portions, and one family said it made a gathering special. Others found it dry, with one diner saying they had to spit it out, and another describing vegetables drying up, soft roast potatoes and unappetising turkey and ham, though the beef was nice. One reviewer ordered carvery on the app, was charged, then told it had finished. Close behind is the soft play, with parents praising the events for Christmas, Halloween and SEN sessions, and a breakfast with Santa that was not rushed. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and good with children, and one member of staff fetched something for a fussy eater. Complaints include overcooked fish and a fatty steak, a waitress dropping food, lukewarm mixed grill, and one reviewer describing built-up food around table legs and dirty toilets. One reviewer who was told no steak knives were available described a 9 year old being told to leave the play area. A diner who declined a free replacement meal accepted a dessert instead.

“The pub is grotty and needs a good clean. You can see built up food caked around the table legs. Toilets are really outdated and dirty on the walls etc. whole place needs a good clean. Waiting staff rushed off their feet. I was ordering at the bar (& being served when the manager came up and told the person taking our food order to make drinks for another customer. So they had to stop mid serving me and start that). There was a huge group in when we were there that were incredibly rowdy. I know they were celebrating someone's birthday but they were shouting, swearing, had no respect for other diners - why they weren't asked to stop with the bad language, I don't know. The food was okay, portion sizes were reasonable. Some of the food was overdone. My partner asked for some mustard and the waitress came over the with the jug from the carvery saying we've got this left over, god knows how long it has been sat out in the open. Long enough to have a film over it anyway! We tried to order carvery on the app, it took our payment etc, only to be told it had finished! Honestly one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a pub. I feel really sorry for some of the staff members.”

“Food was overcooked, steak had lots of fat on it, half of it was fat. Has some fish and chips and the fish was overcooked. Waitress that we had dropped half of the food on the table when we received the meal. Only good food we had was the chick n mix but only one skewer in the selection and have to order two if want more.”

“Great pub with lot of food and drink options. Looks nice and located on an easily accessible street. Not too far from Congleton and Astbury mere park. Small indoor play area also on the premises for an additional charge, which is nice. The play area can get busy so better book in advance. Food and drink in the menu are of food taste. The kids menu has a lot of options too.”

“Absolutely shocking! Arrived 4 adults 6 children, was told we could have a table for an hour and half, which was fine, we didnt book as it wouldnt let us online ( i think because there was 10 of us? ) but we understood because of a birthday party so we paid for the children, we were told to order on the app. So as soon as we sat down we ordered on the app, all had main meals and sides and a few drinks, spent at least £150 easy. Myself and my friend ordered on the app and sent the order through at the same time. My friends meals were put down on the table and the woman said because we ordered on the app we would have to wait for ours and we should have gone up to the entrance to order food, baring in mind we were told different when we arrived. The drinks came and we ordered a few coca cola without ice, they came and it was absolutely shocking! The coke cup was half full and was told it's because we didnt have ice, I explained that we paid nearly £4 for it and she said she would speak to the manager, nobody came. Then our meals arrived and then after a few minutes had to ask for a main and sides as they'd not arrived. I had ordered steak and my partner had ordered mixed grill when our food was put down on the table we were told we can't give you steak knives so you'll just have to use a normal knife and the food was luke warm. I understand this as we are in a child's play area but how it was said was just unacceptable .My daughter was also told to get out of the play area, she is 9 years old, she came back to the table really upset about how the woman spoke to her. My partner went up to the main entrance and spoke to a member of staff and she said she thought she was an adult? She is 9 years old. She told my partner she could go back into the play area but by that time she refused as she was upset. Im really disappointed and with the entrance fees and food and drinks we all together spent easily over £150 for 80 minutes. I think the staff need to explain things better and there should be communication as being told one thing and then another isn't great.”

“Friendly staff and a good range of menu choices alongside the carvery. However, the carvery had been sitting out too long. The vegetables were starting to dry up and, although the roast potatoes looked crispy, they were actually quite soft. The beef was nice, but the turkey and ham looked very unappetising. A bit disappointing compared with previous visits. At £11.49 for a medium carvery it wasn’t value for money”
