About War Horse

War Horse is a pub in Chorley on Buckshaw Ave, with an on-site play area that gives parents with young children somewhere to settle the kids while they eat and drink. The kitchen's mixed grill comes in a full size and a mini version, and a Sunday roast runs alongside classic pub dishes. An all day breakfast, listed as the Mighty breakfast, means the kitchen serves more than lunch and dinner plates. Orders go through the app, and the pub takes walk-ins. A Classics section on the menu carries a deal that applies Monday to Friday.

Customer Review Summary

The mixed grill is the dish diners mention most, with one calling it quite probably the best they have had and another enjoying a mini mixed grill. Close behind is breakfast. The Mighty breakfast is described as cooked to perfection, though another diner's all day breakfast came with a small mushroom, watered down beans and rock hard cold butter. Others name the salmon sizzler with its big piece of salmon, a southern-fried chicken burger and millionaire's cheesecake, and several call the food cheap and cheerful with real value. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, polite and attentive, including one server who made children feel at home, and a parent mentions the kids loving the play area. One reviewer's account is sharply negative. They say burgers labelled under the Classics heading were not covered by the weekday deal, the manager was dismissive, portions were small, the bacon tasted uncooked and the beer was flat. Ordering through the app is praised as quick, and one diner's steak ordered medium rare actually arrived medium rare.

“This is a really nice, clean and spacious pub. We received excellent service from Ainsley and Adam who were very friendly and helpful, both when I phoned to book a table and when taking our orders. The food was great as well, a mini mixed grill and a veg lasagne, courtesy of the chefs Pete and Mark.”
