Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split sharply. Several call it yummy or one of the best they have had, with plenty of food, while one describes bland meat and veg and gravy like dishwater. Close behind is the platter for two, praised for succulent meat, a good selection of veg and a boat of gravy, plus a mini crumble with coffee for dessert. Puddings and decent kids' portions also get mentioned. Staff are mostly called friendly, welcoming and polite, though two reviewers found them indifferent or lacking warmth. The main complaints are about value and execution: one found the burger the worst they had had, another waited for condiments while dinner went cool, and a third felt the roast did not justify its prices. Reviewers also describe the decor as modern, with one noting the bay window tables left guests with their backs to the group. One diner returned the following day for a second meal.

“First impressions walk in the door and you think you’ve hit the jackpot. The Hornsmill looks brilliant—immaculately presented, spotlessly clean, and easily a 10/10 on the aesthetics front. Unfortunately, that is where the fairy tale ends. The service felt less like a warm country pub welcome and more like a mandatory admin shift. Don’t get me wrong, the staff did their basic jobs and brought things out, but there wasn't an ounce of warmth or personality between them. Pure ‘just here so I don’t get fined’ energy. You’d honestly get more banter and cheer at a self-checkout in Toby Carvery. Then the Sunday roasts arrived. For the prices they charge, you expect something decent, but the food completely fell flat. The meat and veg were remarkably bland, and the gravy had the consistency and flavour profile of dishwater. Making a Sunday roast taste of absolutely nothing is actually quite an achievement, but not one I wanted to pay premium rates for. Great looking pub, but style over substance. If I want a lifeless exchange and flavourless gravy, I’ll just make it myself at home for a fraction of the cost. Won’t be rushing back.”

“Was there for birthday celebration individual tables in bay window but poor for social interaction with your back to others in the group. Good served promptly was pre ordered 2 days earlier. Food was good. Had to ask for condiments which took too long so dinner going cool whilst waiting. Condiments should be on the table ready. Ketchup placed on one table do guests had to pass it around. Staff seemed indifferent we were only guests there apart from a few individuals so not rushed off there feet. It was 30c outside and warm indoors maybe staff were very hot. When paid for food at the bar no thank you we hope you had a good time. Just others need to pay for their food. Food not the cheapest. I wouldn’t go back plenty of other places to try out and discover”

“First visit but won't be the last, had our second visit on the following day. Friendly attentive staff but most importantly great food at an affordable price. The Sunday roast was one of the best we've had and there was plenty of food. The following day we had dinner and that was equally as tasty and again plenty of food. Highly recommend visiting this restaurant.”
