About The Church Chester Bar & Restaurant
The Church Chester Bar & Restaurant is a bar and restaurant on Newgate St in Chester, next to the Grosvenor Shopping Centre. The venue is housed in a former church, and the bar faces a church organ, so the building's original purpose stays in view while you order. The kitchen cooks pub grub style food, with a platter on the menu alongside steak and burgers. On the drinks side, the list covers cocktails, including the Zombie, as well as a beer selection. Seating upstairs overlooks the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the setting: a former church with a bar facing an organ, a spacious interior, and an outdoor terrace with its own bar and table service. Close behind is the friendly staff, who accommodated large groups, including a youth football party and a group of international visitors, and agreed to a custom beer order without fuss. Food is described as basic pub grub that is tasty, with the steak, the burgers and the platter singled out, and one group praised the party buffet for children with varied food needs. Cocktails get a mention too, with one reviewer insisting the Zombie is worth trying. Prices and portions are called reasonable. The recurring caveat is pace: on a late meal service took a while and one diner wanted more staff, and on a packed race day the staff worked hard to serve people quickly. Staff also pointed diners to ordering through the app for a discount, and one group had a bill mistake sorted without much trouble.

“The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating to our large group of international visitors. The bar was helpful and agreed to my custom beer order without batting an eye which I appreciate as well. Worth a visit just to see the spacious and authentic space of a former church. Must stop on a visit to Chester!”

“We were gifted with the accommodation of the Church Restaurant team to accommodate for our 71 people group on a day they were not open. We arrived from Los Angeles with many tired families who came to Chester for a youth football club in Wrexham. Due to our size (36 children and 35 adults) and the church's exterior and interior space gave our Los Angeles families the room to stretch out. This was an unforgettable experience of kindness and generosity. We would recommend their party buffet options since it was nice just to have bites of good food for kids with various food needs. The bar waa brilliant facing an 128 year old organ. The outdoor patio had a beautiful wind and space for the tired kids to run around and strech their legs. This gave parents such a relief to enjoy the crafted cocktails and beer selections. Thank you from all of us for what a signature introduction and memory of Chester.”

“I didn't eat there, but the cocktails we're great. You've got to try the Zombie. It's possibly the most expensive one on the menu, but it's worth it.”

“Didn't eat, so cannot score that. I have been a couple of times in the past and enjoyed it. This time was with friends/couples and was on a race day. The place was packed, but the staff were working hard and served us as quickly as possible. The prices seemed very reasonable and it was great for people watching!”
