About Oak Tree

The Oak Tree is a pub on Upton Grange in Chester, open daily, with a menu built around the chargrill. Steaks lead it, with a gourmet ribeye and a 32oz tomahawk, and roast dinners are served as well. Table service is the format, with drinks ordered at the bar. Football shows on a big screen in another section of the pub. The pub hosts group events such as Christening parties, birthday meals and funeral lunches. Party groups get an area set aside, and a self-service buffet of sandwiches, quiche, chips, onion rings, salad and slaw can be laid out for them. Coaches are accepted, so larger parties can arrive together.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the steak, with the ribeye and a 32oz Tomahawk both described as cooked perfectly. Close behind are the grilled salmon, which two diners praise, and the burgers. Hunters Chicken, chicken fajitas, onion rings and sticky toffee pudding also earn mentions, and one reviewer calls the rainbow grain salads spot on. Service draws nearly as much comment as the food, with servers described as friendly, welcoming and accommodating. Several note that orders arrived quickly even when the pub was busy or hosting party tables. Group occasions feature repeatedly. A funeral lunch for a small group, a Christening buffet and a birthday meal were all handled smoothly, and fussy eaters were catered for without fuss. Reviewers describe good value for money. The only gentle reservation comes from a Christening guest, who simply notes that a football match was showing on the big screen in another section. One birthday group closes on a staff member singing happy birthday to the table.

“Darren fitted our small (18) group in at quite short notice...for a lunch following a funeral Although Darren was not working on the lunch day he did come to check everything was ok. Which was a lovely gesture. Gary..who looked after us did a fantastic job..so friendly and accommodating and managed all of our differing orders...with a smile..The service was remarkable. The food was inexpensive yet really good and enjoyed by everyone A shout out to the guy behind the bar (sorry I did not get his nsme).who again had received postive remarks from those he had served. I received positive feedback from several family members...who all agreed that the whole service was fantastic. Considereing the occasion...the team made our experience a really positive one and I cannot thank them enough.”

“I’d come back here just for the service from the gentleman who was serving us, wish I caught his name because he was so welcoming, polite, and attentive. That man deserves a raise! I’d love to visit without the kids next time and try more options on the menu, but we were stopping by for some food for kids after visiting Chester zoo before heading home on motorway.”

“Visited this evening for my mum's 65th birthday. Food was 10/10, 2 out of the group was mega fussy, was not a problem for the staff to accommodate. Staff on duty was amazing (Darren, Andy & Emma) they went above and beyond for us all. Great atmosphere. Bar staff was amazing too. Andy's singing ( happy birthday) was fantastic and made it extra special. Will definitely be back there to celebrate our son's 18th birthday in August.”

“Despite being busy, (we literally took a table people had just left just to get a seat, which was cleared straight away as soon as we attempted to sit down😀) the food arrived a lot quicker than quieter restaurants we have visited. We were served by Ffion (this may or not be the way to spell this!) I had the ribeye which was cooked exceptionally well (Adam the Chef I believe) and full of flavour and the better half had the grilled Salmon (which she won't stop talking about, or just stop talking😂). Definitely making this a regular visit.”

“As usual, we had a lovely meal. Changes made to our order were followed through with no issues. Although there were a few party tables in, there was no wait on our food. Our server, Luke, took care of us. He kept us informed of when food was coming out, made sure we had everything we needed and asked if we needed drink refills, whilst clearing away our table without being intrusive. Other staff members were just as helpful and we noticed how well they worked as a team.”
