  “Today, I visited Chester for the first time with my friend, and we decided to have lunch at The Bar Lounge. Little did I know that I was about to experience a meal that would still have me thinking about it at almost midnight. 😭 Okay, let's get started. I ordered the fish and chips, without mushy peas, of course. I mean, WHO actually wants those peas? The peassssss. Not me. Absolutely not. HAHAHAHA. Anyway, back to the food. The fish and chips were AMAZING. The fish was beautifully crispy on the outside and soft, flaky and tender on the inside. And I'm not even trying to be dramatic, but the fish tasted genuinely fresh, without that unpleasant fishy taste. You know what I mean? FRESH FRESH. And the chips? I have absolutely nothing to say because I have always been obsessed with fries. Crispy, crunchy, golden, perfectly seasoned. What more could a person possibly ask for? BUT WAIT. There was a magical potion in this dish, and that was their homemade signature tartare sauce. Your Majesty, please forgive me, but I cannot remember the actual name of the sauce. 😭 I have failed you. However, I CAN remember the taste, and that is what matters. I believe there was mushroom in it, if my taste buds were working correctly. Whatever the secret ingredient was, it made the sauce so unique and delicious that I ended up asking for EXTRA EXTRA sauce for my fish and chips. Yes, EXTRA. And honestly? Absolutely worth it. If you visit, please give it a try! Moving on to my friend's beef burger. The chips were, once again, heavenly. As for the burger, the caramelised onions brought this beautiful burst of flavour, and the beef patty was SOOOOOOOOO TENDER, JUICY AND WELL-SEASONED. Every bite was just right. Seriously, whoever was in charge of that burger, EXCELLENT JOB. 👏🏻 Oh, and we also ordered the crispy fried baby squid as a side. Now, if you know me, you know I LOVE squid. I am absolutely in love with it, and this one did not disappoint. Tender, juicy, fresh, and coated in a light, crispy batter. It was everything I wanted. OKAY, OKAY, OKAY. I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING. "Isn't this review getting a little too long?" YES. BUT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND THAT EVERYTHING I'VE JUST DESCRIBED IS NOT EVEN THE MAIN EVENT. WE HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE MAIN MAIN MAIN MAIN EVENT. THE DESSERT. THE ABSOLUTE STAR OF THE SHOW. THE REASON I AM STILL THINKING ABOUT THIS MEAL AT MIDNIGHT. Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to their STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. I mean, who finishes a meal without dessert? Not me. Never me. HAHAHAHA. Now, please allow me to take you on a little journey through my taste buds. The pudding was beautifully soft without being soggy, served warm at the PERFECT temperature. And then came the vanilla ice cream, which had honeycomb in it. HONEYCOMB, PEOPLE. HONEYCOMB. Now imagine scooping up the warm, soft sticky toffee pudding together with that cold vanilla ice cream and the little crunchy pieces of honeycomb. BOOOOOOM. Softness. Warmth. Cold creaminess. A little crunch. All those textures coming together in ONE SPOONFUL. I'M SORRY, BUT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE AFTER THIS? I genuinely cannot describe how good it was. My English is giving up on me, my taste buds are still celebrating, and it is practically midnight as I write this review, yet I can STILL remember the taste of that dessert. I NEED TO GO BACK. I NEED THAT PUDDING AGAIN. PLEASE. Now, aside from the food, I also want to mention the service. Everyone was so lovely, sweet and welcoming. The hospitality genuinely made the experience even better, and I really appreciated how friendly everyone was.”

  “We had an excellent meal. The spit chicken was delicious. All the staff are warm and friendly. Highly recommended for a lunchtime. It was nice to thsnk the chefs as there is an open grill /kitchen area. We will definitely return.”

  “A nice pub with several seating areas including a snug, where a few regulars were sitting watching tv. It felt a comfortable place and one where you could reserve a table. Good selection of drinks to. Staff very friendly. I had a lasagne which was very tasty. Not too expensive. It didn't take too long in arriving.”

  “I come to Chester for work and Barlounge is wonderful. This last time I took my wife and mother in law to Chester with me, my mother in law is celiac and I couldn't have been more happy with the special attention they gave her with a gluten free menu. The food is always top notch and I would say it has one of the best Sunday Roasts in Chester. The service is absolutely fantastic they were so nice to my wife and mother in law and on their last day, the staff gave them a card to say good bye. This gesture truly meant alot to my family and I. Thank you. For those reading this review, please do yourself a treat and come to this pub. The food is wonderful and more importantly the people who work there.”

  “Incredible service from Emily who went above and beyond for myself and my partner. We had visited last year for a birthday celebration and had the best cocktail we’ve ever had (Sweet Heat), when we came this year they had updated the menu however, Emily instantly arranged to have the drink made especially for us and even asked the bartender to write down a recipe for us which made the experience very special. Would highly recommend and we will be visiting again for the incredible drinks and even better service!”

  “During our visit to Barlounge in Chester, we started with the Crispy Oyster Mushrooms and Warm Focaccia with charred onion & sriracha butter. Both starters were incredibly flavorful — the mushrooms had a perfect crunch with a hint of seasoning, and the focaccia was soft, warm, and paired beautifully with the smoky, spicy butter. The mocktails we ordered were refreshing and well-balanced, making for a perfect start to the meal. For the main course, we chose the Chargrilled Steak and the Barlounge Burger. The steak, unfortunately, was slightly overcooked for our taste and lacked the tenderness and juiciness we were hoping for. On the other hand, the Barlounge Burger was exceptional — packed with flavor, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. The accompanying skin-on fries and miso aioli complemented it perfectly. What really stood out, however, was the staff. Every waiter was extremely polite, attentive, and genuinely friendly, which made the experience feel personal and welcoming. Overall, despite the steak not being perfect, the starters, burger, mocktails, and the outstanding service made our visit truly enjoyable. I’d definitely recommend trying the starters and the burger, and don’t miss the mocktails!”

  “Fantastic atmosphere with outdoor and indoor areas. Heating at outside, designated smoking area was also good. Service staff were super friendly! Food was delicious. We fall in love with Prawns and the hot chili spicy sauce. We spent almost 3 hrs and enjoyed every minute. Finally we asked deserts and Chefs choice Rum Pineapple was experimental! Deserved all stars…”
