Quick info
About Hadramowt
Hadramowt is a Yemeni restaurant at 42 City Rd in Cardiff, with a short menu built around mandi. Lamb mandi is the main dish, and chicken mandi sits alongside it for those who want a different meat. Grilled sea bass is also on the menu. Because the list is limited, the kitchen keeps its attention on a few dishes rather than a long spread. Decorations inside draw on Yemeni culture. Reservations are required. Payment is cash only and cards are not accepted, so bring cash with you.

Customer Review Summary
Lamb mandi is what most reviewers come for, described as tender, rich in flavour and melt in the mouth, with one diner singling out the smell of the lamb stewing. Close behind are the value for money and staff several call lovely and accommodating. A grilled sea bass and a milk cake taken home also earn praise, and one reviewer finds the chicken mandi a bit dry next to the lamb. The recurring complaint is inconsistency. Several say the lamb portion has shrunk from large chunks to a few strips, and others report the rice turning cold, bland or bad, with one saying it was biryani-style rather than mandi rice. One diner reports finding two hairs in the lamb mandi and being ignored by the kitchen staff when raising it. Service splits, with some describing rude, inattentive staff and others a warm welcome. One happy diner was offered free tea after the meal.

“Hadramowt was a nice chill spot, looked very busy but managed to get a table immediately. All other tables were occupied. I love a Lamb Mandi and was very excited, I could see portion sizes around em were amazing but unfortunately the rice served with the Mandi was not Mandi rice but Asian biryani rice, with the spices and colouring so it made the meal a 3/5. Lovely service and prices are extremely reasonable.”

“I have eaten at Hadramowt before and usually enjoyed the food, which is why today’s experience was so disappointing. The food was absolutely disgraceful. I found two hairs in my lamb mandi, and the rice was cold, bland, and lacked any flavour. It was nothing like the quality I had experienced on previous visits. What made the experience even worse was the service. When I politely spoke to the kitchen staff about the issues with the meal, I was basically ignored. There was no apology, no concern, and no attempt to resolve the situation. It’s a real shame because this used to be a restaurant I would happily recommend. Unfortunately, based on today’s experience, both the food quality and customer service were unacceptable. I will not be returning.”

“A great choice for comforting Middle Eastern-style food and big flavours. It feels like the sort of meal that needs a sweet ending, so the Little Dessert Shop 20% off with the receipt is a nice touch.”

“Delicious ‘melt in the mouth’ lamb mandi, excellent value for money. Staff were lovely and accommodating, the service was brilliant. Took a milk cake to enjoy at home, so good! Two meals and desert for £30, you can’t go wrong!”

“It’s really disappointing the food quality totally changed. Especially lamb mandi the meat is okay but rice too worst now. The chicken Mandi also same, chicken is good but the rice too bad. It’s not my first time visit, three years ago I went there for having lamb Mandi. That’s was really great. After that I use to go there, six months ago also had lamb Mandi that was good. But two days ago I got really bad mandi rice and the meat is okay. I can really feel the quality full changed. I recommend to my friends also they had really bad experience with food and customer service. I’m just adding this review only for who really love good quality food. I hope in future they gonna bring the quality back.”
