  “We have now come here many times for lunch and it has always been incredibly enjoyable! Genuine Italian food and potentially best pizza in Cardiff. The pinsa is a great pizza alternative worth trying and all the flavours and combinations are delicious! Foccacia sandwiches are also great. We have brought our baby and children here which has never caused any issues. Have also enjoyed the outdoor seating too. Parking isn’t easy, but you can find spaces that are free for 2 hours on nearby streets.”

  “We recently had a private function at grano (for our engagement party). We could not recommend grano more! The staff were so attentive and professional and really did go above and beyond to make sure everything was running smoothly. We also ordered a large tiramisu and pizza buffet- all of which was delicious, all of our guests were extremely happy with the food. The atmosphere and garden in grano is perfect. We had the best time celebrating our engagement at grano and we will definitely be returning, as well as recommending to our friends and family for private venue hire. Thank you so much!!!💗🍕🥂”

  “A fantastic little spot. The pinsa and focaccia are absolutely superb: light, perfectly baked, and generously topped. Service is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is cosy and welcoming. Highly recommended!”

  “Grano is set in a converted house in the commercial part of Birchgrove, Cardiff. The layout is simple and functional: the kitchen sits at the front, followed by the coffee counter and display, with two small dining areas beyond. The café operates with a limited dining menu, opening for lunch from Tuesday to Saturday, and for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. The interior is understated, with a mix of wood and tiled floors, wooden tables, and plastic chairs, giving it a casual bistro feel. I tried the carbonara pinza (£13.55), an oval, spade-shaped pizza-style base sliced into eight pieces. The topping includes mozzarella, pasteurised egg yolk, pancetta (salt-cured pork belly), pecorino (sheep’s milk cheese), and black pepper. The pancetta itself was good—similar to thin streaky bacon—but the overall balance didn’t quite work for me. With both mozzarella and pecorino, the dish felt overly cheesy, and the egg yolk had a slightly sour note, which resulted in an unusual and somewhat discordant flavour. Overall, it felt very much like an acquired taste. The staff checked in twice during the meal, and I gave honest feedback, which seemed to surprise them. At lunchtime the café was good capacity for more clients with plenty of empty tables, and walk-ins were easily accommodated.”

  “We visited Grano on Caerphilly Road (right opposite the Birchgrove pub) for an evening pizza, and it was amazing. The pizza was fresh and tasted really good. The staff were lovely—really friendly and welcoming—and the place itself was bright and relaxed. We didn’t have room for dessert, but they looked great! Definitely planning to go back, maybe for lunch next time. Would 100% recommend.”

  “Amazing Italian cafe and bakery in Cardiff! Oh my god! I've been in Cardiff for a week and on the first day I tried "Grano", needless to say I've been back every day, everything is so good and fresh, the staff is so attentive and helpful, I haven't eaten so well in a long time, the focaccia, the pinsa, the homemade cakes! oh my god! highly recommended, don't miss the weekend when they make round pizzas in the evening, you need to book but it's absolutely worth it! Grazie ragazzi! 🫰🏼”

  “Take the opportunity to sit out in the garden area if you can - the relaxing atmosphere goes wonderfully with the delightful food. The breads and bakery items are all freshly made and the coffee and tea menu is excellent. Great salads options as well, plus pizzas on Friday and Saturday evening. It took us a while to call in following the place changing hands but we are very glad we did and will back! The new owners are wonderfully friendly and have put their own stamp and additional evening options onto what was an existing superb lunch spot. EDIT - we have now also eaten from the evening pizza menu and it was wonderful. A very light dough with generous toppings superbly balanced for flavour. There is a wide variety of Italian alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available. The coffee was excellent also! EDIT - we have now done lunch here as well, with the food quality, service and welcome outstanding again. This is becoming a regular choice now, despite the superb options available in the area.”
