Quick info
About China Kitchen
On Albany Rd in Cardiff, China Kitchen is a Chinese takeaway at number 136 where customers collect their orders. The kitchen makes its sweet and sour sauce with lemon rather than vinegar, giving that dish a different base from the usual one. Special fried rice comes either wet, in sauce, or dry, and customers choose which they want. Mushroom chow mein is served in sauce, which makes it a saucy alternative to the rice. The menu also lists curry sauce and chips for anyone who wants a simple side.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food and value at this Cardiff takeaway, with several saying it is the best Chinese they have had and that they will not order elsewhere. Prawn toast is called moreish, and the chicken in batter, special fried rice and mushroom chow mein in sauce get mentions, along with generous portions and low prices. The woman taking orders is repeatedly described as lovely and friendly, welcoming regulars like old friends. The caveats are real but less common. Three-star reviewers found the ribs dry, the food bland, the curry sauce quite sweet and the chips rubbery like rubber. One said the sweet and sour used lemon instead of vinegar. Another was told twenty minutes but waited much longer, while later orders went out first, though the food arrived hot and tasted great. One reviewer, who swapped to the wet special fried rice by accident, called it a happy accident.

“Was told food would be ready on 20 minutes but had to wait 45 minutes. Other customers got their orders before mine who ordered after me. But food hot & tasted great.”

“Very good prices and portions sizes. Food was very nice. We ordered chicken in batter and special fried rice, we got the wet one instead expecting the dry one - worth extra 50p, happy accident! The mushroom chow mein is also in sauce which is nice, I'm used to dry chow mein. The only thing is the sweet and sour sauce they didnt use vinegar. Used lemon instead, it's okay but not the best and what I'm used to. Service is quick and polite. Took 20 minutes for collection. Total price £19.50”
