Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the dim sum, with the turnip cake and har gow named repeatedly, one calling them the best tasted outside Hong Kong. Cheung fun with beef or pork, roast pork puffs, char siu buns, crispy prawn wontons and custard tarts also draw praise, and a Hong Kong-raised diner singles out egg tarts made with puff pastry. Several describe the food as authentic and compare it to dim sum back in Hong Kong. The owners earn warm mentions for greeting guests in Cantonese and, in one case, handing out mandarins for Lunar New Year. Service is described as friendly and efficient, with food kept warm under hot plates. Criticism is smaller but specific. One reviewer found the ham sui gok a bit oily, another called portions small, especially the pork lettuce wrap with four large leaves, and left unfull after four mains, rice, noodles and chips for three people. One diner's return visit turned disappointing, with food that tasted old and not fresh. The decor is called old fashioned and dim, though one reviewer found it clean and tidy.

“We’ve had dim sum here twice. Fantastic food, full of flavour. Great friendly service. Everything was delicious but I especially recommend the crispy turnip cake (no. 22) and the rice noodle roll with pork (no. 42).”

“We were in Cardiff for the day and fancied dim sum and ended up in the Happy Gathering. I was greeted warmly by the owner in Cantonese. It was a Thursday lunchtime so the restaurant was a little quiet however positively reassured by a table of elderly Cantonese locals having lunch. Service was efficient and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious and definitely authentic. I must say that the har gow and turnip cakes were the best I’ve tasted outside of HK. Excellent and I definitely recommend.”

“Food was of a good quality and quite tasty. Portions were quite small, especially the Pork Lettuce Wrap starter that comes with 4 large lettuce leaves, but not enough "food" to get the flavour. Ordered 4 mains + rice + noodles + chips between 2 adults and a teenager that doesn't wat much, and we ate the whole lot without being full. Good, but not as good as Summer Palace”

“We previously had a good experience here, but this visit was very disappointing. The food tasted old and wasn’t fresh, and overall the meal didn’t meet expectations. Hopefully it was just an off day, as our last visit was much better.”

“We ordered 5 dim sums + 1 noodle, all are very good, brought us the memory in Hong Kong. The fried prawn cake is highly recommended! The owner is super kind and gifted us mandarins for Lunar New Year 大吉大利.”
