About Lisboa Cafe
On Bute St in Cardiff, Lisboa Cafe is a Portuguese cafe built around pastel de nata, the traditional custard tart. A vegan tart is offered alongside the traditional ones, and the vegan sausage roll sits next to the regular sausage roll, which gives plant-based visitors a savoury choice as well as a sweet one. Coffee and ice cream are on offer too, and apple tarts and Victoria sponge round out the pastry range. Dogs are welcome inside, so walkers can stop in with their pets. The business also runs a second branch in Penarth.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return mostly for the pastel de nata, described as flaky with creamy custard, and the Portuguese pastries around it, including apple tarts, a lemon and cinnamon roll, and a Victoria sponge. Close behind are the flat white and lattes, which several call great or perfect, and a sausage roll with a vegan counterpart that one reviewer finds delicious. Many describe friendly staff, a cozy, homey feel with soft music, and a small patio, and a few say it recalls the cafes of Lisbon. The main complaint concerns vegan choice. One reviewer was disappointed that the sausage roll is the only vegan option, and says a staff member explained that vegan food is not popular at the moment. Another finds it expensive compared with other coffee shops, and one calls the food merely alright. Even so, a visitor who tried both the traditional tart and the vegan one noted that the lattes were perfect, and the owner is singled out as kind.

“Had some amazing sweet treats from here, highly recommended! We didn’t have time to eat in but the cafe looked really nice and there is a beautiful little patio area to sit in, will definitely visit again”

“This place is really special, with lots of delicious options. However, it’s very disappointing they only have one vegan option in the whole cafe, and it’s a sausage roll… When asking the staff why they can’t include more vegan options, she said it’s not popular at the moment. 😭 I think they’re missing a trick. Or not recognising the importance of catering for all people… I would normally rate this attitude lower, but since the non-vegan desserts are actually delicious, they only lose one star for being behind the times.”
