About The Bull Terrier Cafe
The Bull Terrier Cafe sits on the first-floor balcony of Cardiff Market, so tables look out over the stalls below on Cardiff's number 240. The kitchen keeps to greasy-spoon cooking and simple plates, with a Welsh breakfast alongside a large breakfast and a vegetarian version, and a tea or coffee comes included with the breakfasts. Breakfast runs all day, and lunch choices sit on the same menu. Seating is split between the cafe's own area and further tables on the balcony directly opposite, which gives customers the option of eating outside the room. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance helps visitors with mobility needs reach the floor. No bookings are taken, so customers simply walk in and order. The cafe trades Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come mainly for the breakfast, with the Welsh breakfast singled out by a long-time regular who says it beats those at luxury hotels. Close behind are the large breakfast with tea, a vegetarian breakfast whose sausages one diner liked, and a traditional lunch. Many describe a no frills, builders cafe style place on the first floor of the market, with generous portions, food that arrives hot and quick, and value they call reasonable, with a hearty breakfast including tea or coffee. Several mention friendly service and the pleasure of eating above the market stalls. The complaints are smaller but specific. One reviewer found the coffee lacking in flavour and the person taking orders aggressive. Another waited a little because the server was alone with several orders and called the price debatable. One couple expected laverbread with their laver breakfast and got none, though they still enjoyed the meal. A regular of over a decade describes the Welsh breakfast arriving consistently good, with rain audible on the roof.

“To be fair the food is not bad, the portion is pretty decent and the quality is great. It is not really expensive considering of how big the portion is. However the staff who took our orders are quite odd and kinda aggressive when taking orders, or maybe just because he’s kinda old? The coffee is also not really good, kinda lack of the flavour. They have all day breakfast and a lot of other choices on the menu. A lot of seats at the front so no need to worry about finding a seats.”

“Proper builders cafe, you get what you ask for. It's decent enough grub and affordable enough for Cardiff. Got food, sure it's not high end grub, but it's a greasy spoon cafe and it is cooked pretty quickly, tastes decent and always hot.”

“Was ok, guy who served me was on his own and had quite a few orders so was a little wait but apart from that that it did what it said on the tin. Worth £12? 🤨 debatable.”

“Had a breakfast at The Bull Terrier Cafe on the first floor of the Cardiff Market. The food is good at a reasonable price.”

“Hearty breakfast including coffee or tea at just 8 pounds. Unpretentious cafe serving simple food in a historical market. A must visit for tourists.”
