About The Cricketers
The Cricketers is a pub and restaurant at 66 Cathedral Rd in Pontcanna, Cardiff, a ten-minute walk from the city centre. Football is shown on match days, which makes the bar a busy spot for watching games. Evan Evans beers are on the bar, with cocktails and happy hour offers alongside them. Sunday lunch runs from a set menu, with roast beef among the dishes. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch is what diners return to most, with the roast beef singled out as tender and generous, and side veg described as large enough for three. Food is also praised for the beetroot, onion and goats cheese tart with light, crispy pastry, and for chicken skewers called delicious with tender meat and nice honey. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer mentions a bartender making great cocktails and passing on happy hour offers. Others point to a beer garden, a dog friendly room, and a convenient spot on match days and before the cricket. Several suggest booking ahead because it gets busy. Complaints are mixed but specific: one Sunday lunch brought rock hard roasties, disappointing chicken and lumpy gravy, a burger bun was dry and not fresh, and one longtime visitor feels the chain takeover stripped the soul and changed the interior. One family also describes a wedding meal where the room was ready and the food superb, and everyone wants to book again.

“Popped in a few times over the summer for drinks and always had a lovely time. Even at busy times such as the football or before the cricket the service has always been good. Charles in particular was great on a recent visit - served us well, made us some great cocktails and kept us up to date with Happy Hour offers and recommendations!”

“Come here semi regularly and the atmosphere and staff are always a vibe. Bit removed from town but the drinks and food make it worth it. Used to be an Aussie guy behind bar always making it welcoming but think he’s disappeared”

“Used to be a lot better before it became a chain and they ruined the interior decor & stripped the soul out of the place. but croeso pubs are still reasonably cheap and they show the sport, really good if you want a place to drink on a match day/ before the cricket. In the spirit of a balanced review, If you see me in this pub voluntarily, assume I am having some sort of personal crisis.”

“Wenr here for a Sunday lunch, service is excellent but the meals were awful. The roasties were rock hard the chicken was very disappointing and the gravy very lumpy. So sad as last time it was really good.”

“Stopped For A Quick Bite To Eat (don’t usually eat at pubs but was staying in Airbnb next door) The Chicken Skewers Were Delicious! Meat Was Tender and The Honey Was Nice Too! The Only Disappointment Was The Burger, Bun Was Too Dry and Clearly Not Fresh! Service Was Okay and Staff Were Friendly😄”
