About Blue Bell
Blue Bell is a pub at 33 High St in Cardiff, across from Cardiff Castle at the top of the High Street. It is the third oldest pub in Cardiff, with a history stretching back over two centuries, and it was formerly the Goat Major. The building keeps its old features, and the interior follows a dark, classic pub style. The bar pours beer, cider, wine and cocktails. The small food menu sticks to classic pub dishes, including fish and chips, Welsh faggots and veggie burgers. Lots of television screens show sports, including Formula 1.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the pint and the drinks selection, with beer and cider singled out alongside wine and cocktails, and one reviewer calling a pitcher-style pint great. Close behind is the friendly staff, with one bartender described as helpful, and the old interior with its preserved features and cozy seating. Several mention the location across from Cardiff Castle, the low-key music, and the many screens showing sports, including a request to show Formula 1 that was agreed. Food draws less comment. One reviewer found it good value, with crispy chips that are moist inside, while another who had the Welsh faggots called the food not bad but said the taste could have been better. A vegetarian option of veggie burgers is mentioned, though one reviewer says the kitchen closes relatively early. Complaints are minor: one reviewer thought a pint was pricey, and another notes the toilets are upstairs, which makes access harder, though the bar staff offered to open the ground-level ones. Reviewers repeatedly mention the small outdoor seating area at the front for people watching.

“Nice friendly public house situated across from Cardiff Castle. Ten minutes walk from the Cardiff Central train station. Decent beers, little seating area outside the front for people watching. Lot's of television screens to watch sports. Prices not bad considering the Castle is 20 yards away and a huge tourist attraction.”

“3.15pm on a Tuesday - Liked the interior very much. Medium sized bar area. Well 'appointed' bar lady. Great pint of pitch-fork, but, £5.50pt. Enjoyed the low key music.”

“Called in for a couple of pints and to enquire about them showing the formula 1 for the next day which they said they would. The atmosphere was great, their choice of music was excellent, they serve an excellent pint at a good price. I have yet to eat here so I can't comment on the food however everything else I experienced was excellent”

“The food was good with good price. The chips is strange shape but crispy outside and moist inside.”

“Wonderful pub located in the heart of Cardiff right across the road from the iconic Cardiff Castle. This pub has changed over the year as many of the pubs have but it still maintains that warm and welcoming ambience. Engaging staff, hearty food and a well kept selection of beer. A must visit on any visit to Cardiff”
