About The Wine Rooms Cambridge

The Wine Rooms Cambridge is a wine bar and shop at 57 Hills Rd in Cambridge, created by wine merchants and sommeliers. That background shapes the offer, with wine tasting available and a wine-focused menu that runs from bottles to single glasses. The food is built around sharing. A cheese and charcuterie board arrives as its own plate, a three-cheese selection suits those who want a smaller order, and beef or duck croquettes sit alongside. The menu published online differs from the one served in the bar.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often point to the cheese and charcuterie boards, with one calling a three-cheese selection excellent and others praising the delicious sharing boards. Close behind are the duck and beef croquettes, the olives, a cheese fondue and a Mimosa one reviewer rated the best they had ever had. Several describe knowledgeable, friendly staff who matched wines to their preferences, and one suggests booking. Complaints are varied. A wine tasting group felt the cheese came with too few crackers and objected to being told extra crackers would cost more. One reviewer reports waiting over 20 minutes to be asked for a drinks order, slipping on a flooded downstairs toilet, and being told the service charge could not be removed. Others mention a noisy room, website menus that differed from those in person, and small plates and puddings running out by the evening. One take-away buyer says the bottle was charged far above its online price and advises checking prices first.

“This is a gem in Cambridge. Cozy, atmospheric, with great service and any excellent selection to boot. Prices run the gamut from about 20 GBP all the way up to like 700 a bottle (I'm not factoring in single glass prices). We had a 3-cheese selection which came out as its own charcuterie board and it was excellent. Highly recommend the olives as the style served here is distinct. Will definitely be coming back.”

“Lovely setting but it is noisy, hard to have a conversation. The menus on the website are not the same as in person, so if you are looking forward to something you've seen, worth double checking. There was only one pud option, more online. By 7pm they had run out of some small plate, and the *not so small plates were not even an option. By the time we came to pudding, that had also run out and we had already started our dessert wine!! Not the best experience.”

“Delicious cheese and charcuterie sharing board, plus duck croquettes, beetroot and goats cheese salad and fried chicken thigh. Lovely older gentleman for a waiter and a perfect glass of champagne followed by a white rioja - if this place was in our home town, we'd be there every week.”

“I am strongly disappointed by the wine they sale to me that I had just purchased today. I bought a wine that worth $38 on global market but was charged £170. ( £10 take away discount). I originally really like the wine they provided to me and all the things are great before this purchase. I strongly recommend when people are buying any take-away from this store. Please double check the price online and do not fully trust the information they provide to you.”

“We had a lovely little window table, the fairy lights when it got dark were really sweet. Treasure welcomed me in while I waited for my friend (I arrived super early) - water was offered immediately Do recommend booking We had a cheese fondue, and some cashew nuts as well as multiple glasses of wine and probably the best Mimosa I have ever had. Treasure and her colleague were great, so great were booking again for June to celebrate a birthday Place was clean, small but comfy.”
