Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the breakfast, especially the Black Cat breakfast and the English breakfast, described as fresh, well cooked and a substantial portion. Eggs Benedict, including an avocado version with home-made lemon hollandaise, gets praise too, along with a brie, goats cheese and bacon toastie that came with a side salad and nacho crisps. Coffee is called really good, and diners also mention citrus cake, Pastel de Nata and a strawberry and banana smoothie. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and quick, and one regular says a manager remembered them and made a coffee while closing. The atmosphere is called cozy and chill, and several note the small, family-run feel, fair prices and free parking nearby. The main criticism comes from one breakfast, where the sausage skin was a bit tough and the bacon too crispy. One reviewer advises sticking to one egg type. One reviewer closes on a detail, saying the kitchen added an extra egg on request.

“Went in for tea and cake when waiting for my train. Friendly staff/Owner, and fast free WiFi. Not expensive and was able to sit in for a bit out of the pouring rain.”

“Lovely cafe on mill road. I had the brie, goats cheese and bacon toastie and it was delicious, and also came with a side salad and some nacho crisps which was a nice touch. Also had one of their citrus cakes which was yum. Server was really friendly and kind and service overall was quick! Highly recommend”

“Really enjoyed my breakfast at Black Cat Café this morning. I had the English breakfast which was amazing — nice and fresh, well cooked and a really substantial portion. The coffee was really good too. ☕️ It’s a small, independent, family-run place, which makes it even nicer. You can tell there’s a lot of care behind the food and the way the place is run. Lovely little café, great food, fantastic coffee and a really friendly service. I’ll definitely be going back. Highly recommend! 😊”

“5/5 - The reason The Black Cat feels like home - Thank you Albi! I'm a regular at The Black Cat, I've lived in Cambridge for a long time and whenever I'm back in town, this is the one place that still feels like home. That feeling is largely thanks to Albi, one of the managers. His customer service is absolutely amazing, incredibly easy, efficient and genuine. He made sure my order was on time, checked that I was happy with everything, and what really stood out was his attention to detail with regulars. I went twice in the same day and then again the next day, and he remembered me. On the last visit he was actually closing but still took the time to make me a coffee. You can tell he has a real vision for business, he understands that loyalty is what keeps a place going. Extraordinary service. The Black Cat is lucky to have him!”
