Customer Review Summary
The harbourside setting is what reviewers raise most, with the upstairs balcony looking over the quayside, colourful hillside houses and boats, and blankets provided when it turns colder. Food comes close behind, with diners praising fresh seafood, tender steaks cooked as requested, and a coeliac singling out gluten-free onion rings and ale-battered fish and chips. One reviewer says the food is cooked, not microwaved, and another praises the choice of ales and cider. Several describe the staff as friendly and welcoming, and a live singer drew a stand-out mention. Service is the uneven point. One reviewer calls staff hit and miss after a cider was left on the counter, another found arrival slow, and a third felt left hanging around. One reviewer suggests booking ahead. A diner also found the soup too small for its price and the pie short on veg, with only one carrot. A family returned every night of their holiday because the children loved it.

“Brilliant friendly pub with great food and a lovely atmosphere. Staff were so welcoming and very family friendly. Lovely view from the balcony and blankets provided when it gets a bit colder. The staff really went above and beyond every time we went here (which ended up as every night of our holiday as the kids loved it that much).”

“An absolutely outstanding eatery! As a coeliac, it's rare to come across such a gem. Staff are so lovely, and the food is exceptional. I've never had better! Gorgeous gluten-free onion rings and fabulous ale-battered fish with chips 🤌 We're still raving about this place days after our visit (25th) 10/10, faultless! Great work, please consider becoming a national chain. 🙏🤤”

“We visited for drinks when Puskar Silwell was singing. I had to go in and speak.to management as we we're so impressed with act playing. He was phenomenal!!! As for the staff, totally amazing and nothing too much. A really good vibe, good drinks. We didn't eat but the food looked great too xxx”

“Really nice harbourside pub/bar/restaurant. Plenty of different ales, cider, wine and bottles available. Good interesting menu with local sources ingredients. Lots of outside seating next to the harbour. Pretty big bar. Parking is 5 mins away in a 3 hour max stay car park which is fine. Staff a bit hit and miss. One girl couldn't be bothered to put my cider on the beer mat in front of me, left it on the counter, didn't bother to check when I paid , or say thanks , and was too busy chatting to her mate in the side kitchen. Weird. But otherwise they seem youngish but fine.”

“We had a fantastic evening at the Old Market House in Brixham. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was brilliant, and the location overlooking the harbour is hard to beat. Unfortunately, while we were there, another customer accidentally dropped a glass on the stairs. It smashed everywhere, and some glass landed on the table below. It was clearly an accident, and these things can happen. What really stood out was how professionally the staff dealt with the situation. They apologised immediately, sincerely and repeatedly, and did everything they could to make things right. Sadly, the customers affected responded by becoming extremely confrontational, swearing loudly, acting aggressively and creating an unpleasant atmosphere, despite children being nearby. Their reaction was completely out of proportion to what was an unfortunate accident. A special mention has to go to Josef, Paige and Eleanor, who remained calm, professional and courteous throughout. They handled a very difficult situation with real credit to themselves and never once let it affect the service they gave everyone else in the restaurant. The food was fantastic, the service was first-class, and the staff deserve recognition for the way they handled themselves under pressure. We would definitely return and highly recommend the Old Market House to anyone visiting Brixham.”
