About One Fish Street

One Fish Street is a seafood restaurant at 17 Chandos Rd in Bristol, built around a seafood tasting menu with wine pairings. A set menu is also offered, and the team explains the dishes course by course. The kitchen works in a small plates format, so diners order several dishes rather than a single main. Oysters come raw, grilled, as tempura or as katsu, and the oyster platter holds 12. Other plates include cuttlefish ragu arancini and fish and chips. Cocktails are made in house for those who want something beyond the wine list. The restaurant takes walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary

Oysters are what diners mention most, from the grilled and tempura versions to a katsu oyster and a crispy oyster, with reviewers calling the raw ones ridiculously fresh and the cooked ones a very different take. Close behind is the hake, described as tender and sublime, along with the crab butter and the cuttlefish ragu arancini. Cocktails and wine draw praise too, and several describe friendly, polite waitresses who explained dishes course by course and happily brought out a child's fish and chips with no sauce. The recurring complaint is portion size. The small plates left some diners ordering quite a few more dishes, and one reviewer suggests the marmite butter and bread to bulk out the meal. Others say the anchovies arrived with no bread, that staff could have shown more eye contact and attentiveness, and that it feels pricey without a discount. One family reports a plate piled with empty oyster shells sat on the table until they asked twice for it to be cleared.

“We had a lovely family dinner at One Fish Street! The food overall was really good, with the oysters being a massive standout—the grilled and tempura oysters in particular were delicious and something I had never tried before. The waitresses were really sweet, polite, and wonderfully accommodating with our young child, happily bringing out their fish and chips with no sauce when we asked. There were just a couple of minor things that kept it from being a completely flawless evening. The anchovies were served on their own without any bread, which felt a bit strange given how rich they are, and would definitely benefit from something to balance them out. Additionally, for a restaurant of this standard, the plate clearing fell a bit short; our plate piled high with empty oyster shells sat on the table for quite a while, and we had to ask twice to have it replaced. That said, the high food quality, unique dishes, and lovely atmosphere still make it well worth a visit, and we would definitely return for those oysters!”

“One Fish Street doing the absolute most 🐟✨ Started with focaccia, salted butter and crab custard - and honestly, that crab butter situation needs to become a permanent fixture in my life ASAP. Then came fish & chips small plates x2, cuttlefish ragu arancini x2, and a platter of 12 oysters that were ridiculously fresh. Raw oysters were top tier, closely followed by the cooked ones, but really every version was delivering. Finished with mousse + miso ice cream, plus sparkling elderflower and a cardamom + sea salt limeade to keep things feeling very polished. So yeah: fresh seafood, incredible service, and I’m still thinking about that crab butter.”

“We came here for our Valentine’s date dinner and had a lovely evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It’s a bit of a shame that they don’t offer a set or course menu, as the portions are quite small and didn’t fill us up much, so we ended up ordering quite a few more dishes. It would also be nice if the staff had a bit more eye contact and attentiveness during service. Overall though, it’s a good restaurant and we enjoyed the experience.”
