About Fish Tales
Fish Tales is an independent seafood restaurant at 9 The Mall in Clifton Village, Bristol. The chef adds new dishes every week, and they sit alongside a set menu and a list of specials. Starters include mussels, with a Thai green version, and the fish mains include whole plaice. Steak, other meat dishes and vegetarian plates give guests who skip fish something to order. Desserts run to ice cream and sorbet, with goats cheese and lemon among the flavours. Seating is downstairs. The restaurant opens Wednesday to Saturday and closes Sunday through Tuesday, so the weekly dishes are available across those four days. The team talks diners through the menu and specials at the table.

“Visited a couple of days ago for third time and it never disappointed! Great selection of starters and mains, a nice variety of gentle and well combined flavours. Would strongly recommend the mussels and the wild sea bass. The service was simply impeccable, knowledgeable recommendations about some wine pairing and the cocktails were spot on. And last but not least the oysters....aah I'll be definitely back for more of this amazing experience.”

“Really fantastic birthday lunch . Service great . Super welcome and explanation of the dishes . We had pil pil , mackerel , cuttlefish croquettes for starters . Seafood linguine, and haddock for main Ice cream and sorbets for pud. All absolutely delicious. Highly recommend and will definitely return for mixed fish platter !”

“Inventive, delicious and independent! Dined there last Friday with a colleague. We sat downstair and we're served by a knowledgeable fella (sorry ive totally forgotten youre name!) but he was fantastic. He went though the whole menu and gave us a tasteful breakdown of the specials. We both order the tuna steak which was done to perfection. The wine was extraordinary and competitively prices. Overall cracker of an evening and we left thoroughly satisfied. When you go, make sure you get the potato skins to start (their in the snack section!).”

“Nice little gem. Host very friendly. Fab mix of seafood dishes, with the chef creating new weekly dishes. Great specials and a good selection on the set menu. Very generous with the shellfish. Would recommend!”

“What a wonderful plaice, full of character and excellent service. The only improvement I would say is the potato skin starter could of been a little crispier but the rest was perfection, go for the fish and stay for the dessert, the creme brulé is the best I've ever had!!”

Customer Review Summary
Mussels come up most often, from the Thai green mussels called a highlight at lunch to mussels served with prawns as a starter or alongside the wild sea bass. Close behind are the ice creams and sorbets, with one reviewer calling the goats cheese and lemon flavour remarkable, while the creme brulé and no bake cheesecake also draw praise. Others single out the scallops, oysters, octopus and risotto, tuna steak, whole plaice, seafood linguine and pil pil. Reviewers describe the seafood as fresh and the shellfish as generous, and repeatedly mention staff who talk through the menu and specials and offer wine and cocktail suggestions. The one criticism is that the potato skin starter could be crispier, though another diner suggests ordering it from the snack section. One reviewer also recalls a staff member helping find their missing sunglasses.
