Customer Review Summary
Seafood platters and lobster draw the most praise, with reviewers describing generous portions, fresh lobster with plenty of meat, and a Mediterranean seafood platter. Close behind are the fish and chips, described as crispy with light golden batter, and cod and chips, alongside grilled sea bass, shrimp pasta and seafood spaghetti. Diners also mention the outside seating with a view and a vintage look inside, and several describe fast, friendly service. Recurring complaints centre on cooking and sauces. Two reviewers found the tomato sauce excessive on the seafood spaghetti and the risotto, which one said tasted more of tomato than rice. Another reported overcooked calamari and a hake in caper sauce with a single caper and an undressed salad, and the waitress replied that one caper technically made it a caper sauce. One reviewer found a dirty spoon and noted a discretionary surcharge printed in small type on the menu. The house red was called fizzy, and one reviewer said a waiter seemed uninterested. One reviewer who booked ahead found the restaurant not very busy, while others describe it as packed.

“We visit Brighton every year, for a get together with our friends, and we have dinner in this restaurant every year, and always have a good time here! The menu is extensive, and your meal can be as cheap or as expensive as you want, depending on your meal selection. So it is in your hands. The service is fast, friendly and efficient, and the food is excellent, and really tasty. I would definitely recommend it! As for the restaurant, it has lots of seating, inside and out, and I would recommend booking, especially at weekends as it is always full. It has a vibrant and busy atmosphere, with lots of bustle. This restaurant has been around for almost 100 years, and it has lots of history, and has been visited by many famous people. We love it, and come here every year, and I will come again next year, for sure! 😀”

“Poor food. Calamari came overcooked with no dressing or sauce. Hake in caper sauce with salad came with literally 1 caper, and no dressing on the salad. Waitress said it was not a problem as there was a caper. So it was technically caper sauce. The fish wasn't actually badly cooked. And they brought dressing when she's asked. But overall poor.”

“First time visiting here, despite being told on multiple occasions to try this place. And we visited just after 3pm, so avoided the lunchtime rush. Food - spaghetti with mixed seafood with tomatoe sauce. Portions were generous, but there was a bit too much sauce than was needed. Otherwise we enjoyed this. Our other main for sea bass grilled which was grilled, with chips. Really enjoyed this and would recommend to the traditional fish n chips. Only marked down due to the excess tomato sauce. Service - we were greeted by a young tall chap, who was really polite and gave us a nice table spot outside with a good view. We were then looked after by a slightly shorter chap with stubble who seemed totally uninterested in working there. Very little social skills - maybe was having a bad day. But all the other staff were hospitable. Atmosphere - really nice spot on the other side of the beach. The venue has a nice vintage look inside. We sat outside and enjoyed sitting in the shade on a hot day. Main atmosphere provided by the exterior. Overall we enjoyed the food and would consider if we're in the area again.”

“As fabulous as ever. First visited 6 years ago and a few times in between then and our visit yesterday. Service attentive but not overbearing. Lovely to be able to get Gavi by the glass which was a real treat. Starters fresh tasting, perfect to line you up for the main meal. Our seafood extravaganza was the BEST! Lots of meat on the lobster and a great selection of hot seafood, would recommend and will be back!”

“One of my wife’s favorite restaurants from when she lived in Brighton, and it certainly lived up to the recommendation! Conveniently located right across from the i360, it’s in a prime location and is understandably very busy. We ordered the seafood platter, and the portions were incredibly generous. The lobster was exceptionally fresh and delicious, and the shrimp pasta was equally impressive, with a rich, flavorful sauce. The service was fast and efficient—our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. While the staff weren’t especially friendly, they were accommodating throughout our meal. Considering the quality, portion sizes, and beachfront location, the prices were very reasonable. If you’re a seafood lover looking to enjoy a great meal with beautiful views of Brighton Beach, this is definitely a place worth visiting. Highly recommended!”
