Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw for most reviewers, with the fish described as done perfectly, its batter crispy and cooked all the way through. Mushy peas earn similar praise, and curry sauce comes up as a favourite side, including a spicy curry sauce one diner found different. The Palestine box is called filling enough for two, and the food is described as fresh and tasty. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and one reviewer notes the food is all halal. Chips get a more modest verdict, called acceptable and fine. The complaints centre on inconsistency. One returning customer found the batter soggy and heavy after previously enjoying thin, crisp fish. Another found the spicy fish harsh with its masala, and one disappointed diner reported cold fries and a burger bun that fell apart. One reviewer suggests having sauce bottles available. Another recalls being welcomed inside shortly before closing and ordering fish and chips with curry sauce and mushy peas.

“I’d been fasting all day, so by the time fish and chips sounded like a good idea, it was already 9:30pm — just 30 minutes before closing. The lady was kind enough to let my wife and I come inside rather than turn us away, which was a lovely touch. I went for my usual — fish and chips with curry sauce and mushy peas — and it did not disappoint. The food was just what I needed after a long day of fasting, and the place had a really warm, cosy atmosphere. My wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Highly recommended!”

“Found this gem by accident. Absolutely loved it. Great food and great value. Definitely recommend and will happily visit again. Staff were welcoming and very friendly.”

“Previously excellent, now disappointing. This place used to serve beautifully crisp, thin‑battered fish — but that quality has slipped. The batter on my latest visit was soggy and heavy, and the fish had lost its appeal. Chips were fine, but nothing special. You’ve delivered much better in the past, and I hope you can get back to that standard.”

“Mother Hubbard’s was a huge disappointment! The fries were cold, the burger bun fell apart, and the overall food quality was very poor. I absolutely do not recommend it.”

“Very good customer service. The Palestine box if very filling and only £10. It can easily feed 2 people. All food was fresh and tasty. Got the spicy curry sauce as well which was different. Never tried this else where would highly recommend. The prices where decent across the board! And they have a very big car park.”
