Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the friendly, helpful staff and the sea view over the pier, with lunch dishes such as fish goujons, fish and chips, prawns and pizza getting repeated mentions. Several single out gluten free options, including the chips and an orange and lemon cake, and one says the prawns were made without butter on request. Coffee and cake is called excellent by one diner, while another found the cappuccino mostly froth. One burger is described as among the best a reviewer has had, and cocktail offers and a free pint with a meal deal come up as well. The main complaints are about value and mistakes. One reviewer found fish and chips and cocktails expensive, another called the food mediocre, and a family waited about 20 minutes for cutlery. One group received chicken in a vegetable curry they had checked was vegetarian and was offered only a refund for that dish. Outdoors, one reviewer found the tables close together and noisy, and was then moved to a window table. Another says drinks were replaced for free after a spill.

“The food was mediocre—not terrible, but nothing special—however, dining right over the ocean with a beautiful sea view made it completely worth it. The staff were very friendly and quickly cleared away our plates when we asked, which was helpful since there were quite a few bees around.”

“I visited key west a few days ago after a few years away from bournemouth and I can confidently say this has been one of the best service experiences I have ever had, including prior visits here. The food and drinks are expensive ( £19.95 for my fish and chips! ) and £18.00 for two cocktails, but our waiter, Erin, was quick to make us aware of their free pint with a meal deal, as well as giving a few recommendations to my partner and daughter. I was sad to discover they no longer offered their seafood platter, but they do still have calamari and prawns. In general the service was excellent, we spoke to many different staff throughout our visit, as they have no assigned waiter, but all were incredibly friendly, helpful and kind, and replaced both mine and my daughters drinks for free when my daughter knocked them over. The food took around 25 minutes to arrive, but the young man delivering it apologised for the wait and checked in on us a few minutes later. Drinks arrived very quickly on the other hand. Unfortunately, the atmosphere outside was incredibly noisy due to the zipline and helter skelter just beyond the restaurant, and there was a constant stream of people walking past our bench on the edge. The tables outside are also particularly close to each other, so much so that often other people would knock into us as they walked by. When we asked to move inside we were given a great window table with a panoramic view of the isle of wight over to old harry rocks, and a waiter helped us move our drinks and food. I would recommend parking near to the harry ramsdens fish and chip shop or alternatively next to the tennis courts in the lower gardens. The walk down the pier is quite long and unfortunately was also quite littered, although the seating outside the restaurant was clean and free of trash.”

“We visited BH weekend, for a quick refreshments..I.had a tonic water ( the small tonic can and my husband had the coffee ( cappuccino) and cake combo at 7.75. The coffee was more froth than actual milk..however, they do offer milk alternatives for an extra 50p. Overall, not great! It became very busy at lunchtime and with the on and off rain it was to be expected. Located on the pier and easy access from.the main area. Wouldn't visit again.”

“Our experience was shockingly poor from start to finish. The women’s toilets were absolutely filthy, to the point that it looked like someone had quite literally exploded inside them. Completely unacceptable for a restaurant, let alone one on Bournemouth Pier. The food was just as bad. What was described as a vegetable cauliflower dish arrived with aubergines instead of cauliflower. Even worse, the vegetable curry contained actual pieces of chicken. This was particularly unacceptable because we had specifically gone over before being seated to confirm whether the vegetarian and non-vegetarian food was kept separate. We were assured that it was. When we raised the issue, the staff profusely apologised, but despite the seriousness of the mistake, they only offered a refund for the curry. The fact that chicken ended up in a dish we had specifically checked was vegetarian in the first place is completely unacceptable. And as if that wasn’t enough, two at our table of five waited around 20 minutes just for cutlery. We repeatedly asked staff for it, yet somehow it still took 20 minutes to get something as basic as knives and forks. Overall, the staff were inattentive, unhelpful and seemed completely disinterested in whether we were having a good experience or not. There was no sense that anyone was taking responsibility for the repeated problems. Between the filthy toilets, incorrect food, chicken being served in a vegetarian curry despite us explicitly checking beforehand, and painfully poor service, this was an awful experience. Do not go. There are plenty of better places to eat in Bournemouth.”
