“In 2022 we launched Vicolo to share the delights of Neapolitan Italian cuisine. Our love of Italian culture and food drives us to follow traditional master Neapolitan recipes using only the finest ingredients. Unique to Vicolo is our authentic contemporary Neapolitain pizza originating from Napoli which is widely known for improved digestion and increased flavours through careful selection of ingredients and perfected cooking conditions. We invested in a new generation Neapolitan electric pizza oven, the first of its kind in the UK, to deliver stable cooking and maximum flavour. Italian tradition mixed with modern cooking methods allow us to deliver an authentic taste of Italy here in Bournemouth.”

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the Neapolitan pizza, with one home pizza maker calling the wood-fired version top-tier and another noting the folded classico is generous with toppings inside, though it could have been warmer. Pasta runs close behind. Reviewers praise the carbonara, the vesuvio with Neapolitan ragu, chunks of beef and pork and meatballs, and a lasagne described as fresh and light that one couple returned for. Garlic bread is called fluffy and chewy, and a diner with allergies credits the staff with guiding them through free-from options, including a gluten free salmon pasta. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming. The complaints are specific. One reviewer describes three waiters failing to coordinate, drinks left sitting on the bar and then taken to the wrong table, missing cutlery, and an Etna pasta with chicken that came back lukewarm after a brief reheat, with no compensation offered. Others cite rubbery calamari, unripe tomatoes in a carpaccio, and a bland pappardelle di funghi. One solo diner was brought a glass of wine on the house to go with the carbonara.

“Great Pizza, Unfortunate Front-of-House Chaos We visited Vicolo without a reservation, and the front-of-house team was kind enough to make room and seat us, which was a great start. Unfortunately, the service quickly derailed from there. The main issue throughout the meal was a complete lack of coordination, caused by a carousel of three different waiters handling our table without communicating with one another. The Drinks: Our drinks took forever to arrive. I could literally see them sitting on the bar, but nobody picked them up. When someone finally did, they took them to the wrong table downstairs, causing a total kerfuffle. Even after I went up to the bar to ask about them, it still took a while to resolve. The tap water we requested alongside our initial order didn't show up until we were almost finished with our main meals. Cutlery Issues: When the food arrived, only two of us had cutlery. We were left sitting with hot food, waiting for what felt like forever just to get knives and forks for the remaining two people. The Food: This was a real mix of highs and lows. Pizza: Absolutely fabulous. As someone who makes a lot of Neapolitan pizzas at home, I am notoriously fussy, but Vicolo’s wood-fired pizza was top-tier. If you want a genuine, high-quality wood-fired pizza, this is the place to get it. Pasta: My wife ordered the Etna pasta with chicken (£18), which arrived lukewarm. After trying it, we pointed it out to the staff. They took it back to reheat it, but it was clearly just put in a microwave for a brief moment—the middle was slightly warmer, but the outside was still cold. She ended up leaving nearly half of it. At £18 a dish, this was a complete waste of money. Service & Resolution: Because the drinks were so severely delayed and the food arrived so quickly, we had literally taken two sips of our drinks before our meals were served. When the plates were cleared, the staff asked how the pasta was, and we explained the temperature issue again. Later, when asking for the bill, we requested to have the service charge removed and explained that we really hadn't enjoyed the experience. Despite addressing the issues twice, no effort was made to offer compensation or make things right. The pizza chef clearly knows their craft, but the chaotic service and poorly handled pasta situation made it a frustrating experience overall.”

“We had the sharing platter & classico pizza. Sharing platter had deliciously cooked prawns, sea bass (lovely) and calamari - the calamari was a bit rubbery. Pizza was delicious, it's a folded pizza so don't be fooled by appearance they are very generous with inside toppings. The pizza was amazing but could have been warmer which is why we gave 3 stars. Moretti on draught lovely and cold. Worth mentioning the place was incredibly busy and despite that the waiter was incredibly polite, and friendly, and tried his best to make time to regularly check on us and everyone. Service was 10/10. It was a good atmosphere and thanks to the waiter for being so friendly.”

“Perfect evening with some top class food! We have allergies so when picking a restaurant we make sure they offer free from meals, Vicolo do this and we're super attentive. They were also very good at guiding us into what we could and couldn't have on the menu The food was spectacular with myself having a pizza and my fiancee having the gluten free salmon pasta! Amazing all round If we're back in Bournemouth we'll be sure to stop by again!”
