About Cristallo

On West Cliff Road in Bournemouth, Cristallo is a family-run Italian restaurant that also runs as a cafe. The menu covers pizzas, pasta, steaks and seafood, and a specials board sits alongside the regular dishes. Homemade limoncello and Chianti are on offer, so the family's own drinks can go with the meal. Paper lamps light the dining room. Garlic bread, fries and onion rings come as sides to go with the mains.

Customer Review Summary

Praise centers on freshly cooked Italian plates, with seafood pasta and lamb from the specials board singled out, along with a prawn and crab cocktail, garlic mushrooms and a lasagna one diner called excellent. Reviewers also mention homemade limoncello, generous portions and friendly staff who helped with choosing dishes. Close behind is a substantial run of complaints. The pizzas are described as dry, overcooked and tasteless, while another table found the halibut bone-dry and the lamb tough, and says the manager refused their complaint. Several feel the bill was padded: sides like garlic bread, fries and onion rings were offered and then charged, and a 10% service charge could not be removed. Two parties say they were told the card reader was not working and sent to find cash next door, then found it worked when they said they only had digital cards. One diner with a dairy intolerance had a meal modified, and outdoor guests with a dog were given warm blankets.

“We are thoroughly disappointed with the quality of the dishes served at the restaurant! Dinner fell short of our expectations due to the food quality: the halibut fillet was bone-dry, and the lamb fillet was tough (it seemed like it had been cooked for only half the required time). Despite this, we paid the full bill (£103.00) because the manager refused to accept our complaint. We are still hungry, but we do not recommend this restaurant—it was a waste of time and money!”

“There is nothing wrong with the food, we ate fine. However it felt like they were trying to get more and more money out of us with every interaction. "Garlic bread? Fries? Onion rings?" That's not upselling, it's greedy. When it comes to paying their "system is not working" and we were forced to take up cash in some place next door with a very high currency conversion rate. That's shady and shouldn't happen like that, especially in this place that probably only attracts tourists. They also put on a 10% "service charge" that you can't remove..”

“My family arrived here with no expectations but I have to say the food was made with lots care and consideration. I have diary intolerance and they took that into consideration and modified my meal accordingly and it was delicious. We were seated outside as we had a dog, so they gave each of us warm blankets to keep us cozy. I am glad we chose this place to have dinner. ☺️”

“I found this place charming. The staff was attentive and accommodating. I love Italian food! I eaten Italian all over the world. I had lasagna, my favorite dish and it was excellent. Not the best I have ever had, but in the to 10. It is much better than the other Italian restaurant within walking distance of my hotel.”

“There were lots of hidden fees we were not aware about. The waitress asked us what sides we would like WITH our food, not knowing that we would be charged for a measly garlic bread that should of came with our dish. When we said we want the bill, they got another waitress to come and shove menus in our face.Even the payment was sketchy. They lied to us, saying the card reader didn't work and we should pay in cash and withdraw from the atm. When we informed them that we only had digital cards, they "tried" the card reader and had no problem. The food itself was satisfactorily, with below average portions. Overall I would not recommend, especially when there are lots more options next-door.”
