Quick info
About Achari
Achari is an Indian restaurant at 152 Crook St in Bolton, a short walk out of the city centre. The kitchen cooks vindaloo curry and serves Peshwari naan alongside it, while the vegetarian options on the menu include paneer balti. Portions are generous, and the team brings food to the table rather than running a counter. Reservations are required for every visit. At Valentine's, the team handed every lady a red rose and a helium balloon on leaving, giving guests a keepsake to take home from the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly, quick table service is the most repeated draw. Reviewers describe staff who greet them with a smile and remember regulars, and one regular was given a free shot of Baileys. The food earns praise for specific dishes: a paneer balti with a perfect spice level and a touch of sweetness, a saag paneer main, a vindaloo at a perfect spice level, and a Peshwari naan described as really good. Several also mention generous portions and reasonable value. The criticism is concrete. One vegetarian couple found the menu poor, mostly meat dishes without the meat, and called the vegetarian jhalfrezi and Southern Indian garlic chilli ordinary, dominated by big chunks of onion and pepper. Another diner, originally from India, found the chicken karahi not authentic and the chicken and lamb chewy, with long waits for both seating and food. One reviewer noted green-tinted rice. Frequent returners say they have never had a bad meal and have now tried much of the menu.

“Great selection of starters, appetisers, sides and mains (including vegetarian options - I had saag paneer as a main which was delicious). I'm not much of a drinker but the rest of the party was well catered for. We felt welcomed and comfortable as soon as we set foot inside the door. Always served with a smile, the staff were pleasant and very polite. Likely to come again next time we celebrate a birthday or family event. Thank you for a great evening!”

“I had heard that the Achari was the best Indian restaurant in Bolton, so one Tuesday evening my partner and I paid a visit. First impressions were that the restaurant was clean but a little tired looking. There were few people in, so we didn't have to wait for a table. The service was quick and friendly. We are both vegetarians and found the menu selection surprisingly poor. It largely consists of the usual "meat" dishes without the meat. It would have been nice to have the option of paneer, mushroom or dahl dishes for vegetarians. I ordered a vegetarian Jhalfrezi. It was OK, but without meat or anything to substitute for meat it was very ordinary. The dish was dominated by big chunks of onion and red and green peppers, and the preparation felt rather clumsy, with little finesse. My partner ordered a vegetarian Southern Indian Garlic Chilli. Oddly this had some baby carrots in it, but again it was dominated by oversized chunks of onions and peppers. I've rated the food as 2 star because of the poor vegetarian choice. If I'd had a meat dish it may have been 3 star - good but nothing special. There are better Indian restaurants in Bolton nowadays.”

“Came here with my sister for the first time after 3 years, and the service was just as great. Very fast table service and friendly staff. Our food was nice and steaming, pretty decent portions for the price, and the star of the show was definitely the Vindaloo curry which was at a perfect spice level. 5 stars, would definitely visit again :)”

“Ignore my terrible picture of the food I was too excited to eat🤣 Genuinely best curry outside of Manchester City centre. I come fairly regularly and have never had a bad experience. I always order a paneer balti and it is the perfect spice level , also has a level of sweetness to it which I’m obsessed with and have never found anywhere else ! Price very reasonable also. As a vegetarian there is lots of choice Customer service brilliant. It’s always nice when waiters remember who you are ! They even gave me a shot of baileys on the house which just rounded off the best evening👌thank you Achari 🙌🏽”
