Quick info
About The Pavilion
Opposite Asda in Astley Bridge, The Pavilion is an Indian restaurant on Blackburn Rd in Bolton. The dining room is large and seats big groups, and the owner stops at tables for a chat. Table service begins with poppadoms and dips. The menu is mostly traditional and mostly meat, with Chicken Tikka Masala, Madras and chicken bhuna among the curries. A small fish section sits alongside it, and only a couple of dishes are paneer or vegetable. Chef specials run next to the regular dishes, and the food comes out in traditional bowls.

Customer Review Summary
Curry is the main draw, with reviewers praising the spice level that accommodates a self-described heat lover, chef specials alongside staple dishes, and a menu one diner calls great. Friendly, attentive staff come close behind, and the owner is described as approachable, stopping at tables for a chat. Several return regularly, one after more than thirty years. The caveats cluster around takeaway and busy dine-in service. One Valentine's diner describes a slow table order while takeaways left the kitchen promptly, with missing items, though the food itself was very good. Another reports a late delivery with cold rice, short poppadoms and chutney, and a chicken bhuna with little chicken. A Madras was called watery and flavourless. A fried scampi arrived cold without the salad listed on the website, after the wrong naan had been sent before, and the complaint call met a confrontational reply. A replacement scampi and chips was eventually offered after several staff got involved, and declined.

“The best Indian restaurant outside of Manchester. Staff always attentive and quick to serve what you ask for. Have been going for years owner very approachable and always stops at your table for a chat and a catch up. The restaurant has won numerous awards over the years. All of which were well deserved. Great menu with staple dishes as well as chef specials We try to get there at least once a month. We always go after a holiday to finish the experience off. This includes after many times in Goa where we ate curry every day for 2 weeks.”

“I have ordered from the pavilion many times as well as eating in the restaurant in person. The last couple of times I have ordered little things have started going wrong but I let them slip, the wrong naan bread being sent out for example. This time some of the food was plain bad, the chips looked and tasted like yesterday’s and the scampi was cold and also missing its salad which it is stated as coming with on the website. When I phoned up to complain the person I spoke to was confrontational they told me that it doesn’t come with salad and that I was in fact wrong, they were adamant about it which I have to say really annoyed me. As you can see from the pictures I have included from both their own website and my receipt I did indeed order the fried scampi which is stated as coming with chips and salad. The manner in which my complaint was dealt with left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Eventually after speaking to more than 4 people I was offered a replacement scampi and chips but I declined the offer. Reading some of the other negative reviews here I feel justified in not feeling alone that this restaurant seems to have gone downhill recently We used to order fairly often from this restaurant and have enjoyed going in person on more than a few occasions but I do not think that I will bother again, I am going to put my money where my mouth is and take my business elsewhere. Establishment’s like this live and die upon their reputation. I have, in fact, recommended your restaurant to friends and family in the past which I will no longer be doing either. I hope that you take note of this review and up your standards when it comes to dealing with customers in the future.”

“Ordered from The Pavilion through JustEat on Tuesday night, first time trying as we have wanted to try the curries for ages. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala curry, and found a bone in a piece of chicken and almost choked (not a small bone either). I raised this issue with Just Eat who informed me that the restaurant refused to offer me a refund and were ‘confident this was not an item from their restaurant’ which of course they will say lol. Because I apparently just go around collecting bones to plant in my meals 🙄 absolute joke. Also ordered a Madras curry which was like water consistency and tasted like it had been watered down, there was no flavour. Won’t be eating here again, I’d recommend Taslima - 10/10”
