Quick info
About The Cyprus Fishbar
The Cyprus Fishbar works as a counter operation on Wash La in Birmingham, cooking fish and chips to order in regular and mini portions. Families with young children are covered by high chairs and a kids menu that arrives in a box with a drink included, so a child's meal comes as one order. The rest of the board runs beyond the standard chip shop line, with battered sausages, battered chips and scallops alongside kebabs, from doner meat and lamb doner to a large mixed kebab served with chips. Curry sauce, chilli sauce and mayo are available as add-ons. There is no booking, so customers queue at the till to order and pay, and food is cooked fresh once the order goes in. For anyone eating at home, orders can be placed for delivery, including through JustEat, or collected in person. The takeaway opens daily.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the draw here, described as consistently good and cooked fresh per order, with one regular calling the portions big enough that the large mixed kebab and chips could feed two. Close behind are the chips themselves, rated by one visitor as some of the best they have had, alongside praise for the battered sausages, the mini fish and chips ordered both in person and by delivery, and scallops with curry sauce. Several also note the shop's cleanliness and a cheery manner at the till. The recurring caveat is price: more than one reviewer finds it steeper than similar local shops, and one was shocked by the total charged for two regular fish and chips with curry sauce and suggests checking prices before ordering. Others report chips arriving warm rather than hot or on the dry side, and one found the lamb doner lacking real lamb flavour, recommending chilli sauce and mayo. The kids' meal arrives in a box with a drink included.

“The food like chicken and fish is good the the lamb Donna kebab is poor like no real taste of lamb 4/10 so if you buy then make sure you do buy some chilli sauce and mayo as you will need it. The service is probably the best thing because everyone stands in line no one can push in the queue so they've got that spot on. The atmosphere can be improved as I just feel there's a lack of friendly communication from their staff towards a new customer and it doesn't seem very welcoming.”

“First time here as I've been in search for a real fish n chips. Was nice to see a classic chip shop . Ordered two regular fish and chips with curry sauce to be charged when paying the lady from top of her head charged me £30 ! What a complete rip off . Absolutely shocked at her price all in all walked away with my lunch but all I can say is please check out price before ordering .”

“Cyprus fish bar is a traditional chip shop found in the Yew tree area (B25). The shop accepts both cash and card, the card option has a 50p service charge. They offer most traditional chip shop items and also battered chips on several days. The store is extremely clean, the doner meat tastes lovely and the chips are some of the best I have ever had. Personally, I think the price is fairly high for their menu items, but even with the price, the quality of the fish and chips is undeniable - It is worth paying a bit extra for an authentic experience that transports you back to your childhood. All staff members I have interacted with here seem authentically pleasant and well meaning, the ship is pristine and the food is delicious. There is no seating in or outside of the chip shop, which is a shame, would have been nice to have had a foldaway chair and little table outside of the shop to enjoy the chips there in the beautiful weather we are currently having. In conclusion, this is a shop well worth checking out and even going out of your way to eat at.”
