Quick info
About Shawarma Wala
Shawarma Wala is a halal restaurant on Coventry Road in Birmingham, where the meat is carved and the food put together fresh in front of customers. Chicken and lamb shawarma anchor the menu, served either wrapped in naan that is toasted to order or plated with chips, salad and pickles. Loaded jacket potatoes carry the same fillings, topped with cheese and chicken or lamb shawarma, and fresh orange and mango juice sit alongside the food. Seating inside runs to just a few places, with outdoor seats for those who prefer to eat outside, and the counter also handles takeaway and delivery orders for eating off site. Orders are taken on a walk-in basis rather than by reservation, so a queue builds at rush hours and cooking to order adds a wait. The lamb shawarma can sell out, which makes an earlier visit the safer bet. The kitchen closes on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Customer Review Summary
The recurring complaint is that the lamb sells out, with one reviewer missing it on two visits and another trying to arrive before 7. Reviewers also describe a small, crowded space with few seats and a busy queue at rush hour. One diner who came shortly before closing on a Sunday found service rushed and the wrap served in naan instead of a wrap. One reviewer who received one portion of fries too few was offered a whole extra portion and a fresh drink.

“Really love their lamb shawarma, naan, and rice! The lamb shawarma especially is filling and has a very unique taste. And the naan has an incredible smoky flavour. One of the main places I order from quite frequently, and it’s no surprise that my cravings are often satisfied. Glad we have this gem of a shawarma shop in Birmingham, Allahuma Bariik!”

“Great people great food. I used to go there weekly and the food was always consistent and amazing. Would definitely recommend the food there. Once I went there and they gave me one portion of fries less, so I came back to get the food and they offered me a whole extra portion of fries and a fresh drink. I declined but just goes to show what kind of hospitality they give you.”

“Best shawarma Ived tried so far in Birmingham Better than West Brom and London Finally seasoned meat!! Super juicy aswell Salad and tahini /hummous was great. Loved the pickles. Only wish I had more. They also serve fresh orange juiced and loaded jacket pockets. Would definitely go again. My platter was delicious and bread is soft, fresh, fluffy and toasted Super busy. Rush hours can be overwhelming But I understand the hype. Definitely cheap and tasty”

“So glad this place is 2 hours from where I live! Otherwise, there would be no chance I would be able to lose the weight I want, because I would be eating here that regularly. Comfortably the best tasting shawarma that I have tasted, and I have been to a lot of places, especially around Leeds and Manchester. I was able to have the chicken shawarma sandwich and also the plate of chicken with chips. Food was available quickly and the prices offer great value for money. Thanks for the extra naan and chicken, it went down a treat. Keep up the good work!”
