  “Had a fantastic meal at Mellow's this weekend. My colleague was visiting and fancied some authentic Jamaican food. I have been to Mellow's several times and always had a good time. Our waitress Suraya was friendly and very helpful, even though the restaurant was quite busy, being a Saturday evening, she was very sweet and no request was too much. Great atmosphere also! Food, cocktails, dessert 10/10. Thank you!”

  “Visited mellows again as previously had a great experience which in fairness was about 2-3years. The standards have dramatically dropped. We ordered the jerk chicken and rice & Jerk Salmon XL. Both meals food cold. The rice and chicken were clearly not fresh. We asked the waitress for a fresh plate of food. The entire plate was hot including the salad, clearly they just stuck in the microwave!!! We sent the food back and after it sitting on the counter for 5-10mins it arrived. Not the best I’ve eaten. Mac & cheese £6.50 and tasted below average. Overpriced 100%. The seats had stains on and the floors felt sticky. Customer service not the best Mellows don’t let the standards slip!”

  “I haven’t been to Mellow’s for a while as I’m not local but was in Birmingham for the weekend. Visited Mellows on the Friday and Saturday and food and service was excellent on both days. Staff are very friendly too. Will be coming back.”

  “I heard mixed reviews about this place and as a lover of carribean food and culture i had to go down and try. Absolutely fantastic probably the best carribean food i have had. we ordered the sharing platter XL with a curry goat and was blown away. The goat was soft and tender, the jerk chicken breast soft and juicy, well seasoned with a banging sauce to compliment, the pepper prawns beautifully cooked, as well as the mac and cheese with fresh salad 🥗. The drinks were brilliant poured correctly in quirky glasses. The rum cake blew us away think we were drunk off it! But was delicious. The decor, and cleanliness was spot on, great atmosphere and the lady serving us bless her had a few tables to service on her own and was fantastic. The pricing is great also. These guys do a brilliant job bringing carribean food back up to the level it should be a must visit you wont be disappointed 10/10 ❤️❤️❤️”

  “The worst experience I ever had in mellows I’m very disgusted in the way the waiter treated us very rude and mistreated us I’ve never ever had an issue before I use to love eating here until we were racially abused, the lady that was working on Tuesdays 23rd June at 17:20pm was very rude we was allowed in the garden area but when other people who weren’t Muslim asked to sit in the garden and they were granted access which I find very rude on top of that our food was on the counter for over 15mins I felt very offended today and I hope some sort of action will be taken serious message to the owners your workers will be the downfall of your business, mellows was a very welcoming place food was always top tier, today was unacceptable we was given left over rice , cold prawns absolutely disgusting I really hope the owner looks into his staff. The only thing I ate of the plate was the chicken and Cajun potato’s , really really made me angry today never felt so violated eating out before!!!!!!”

  “We had a fantastic meal at Mellows Caribbean Restaurant! The food was absolutely outstanding. I ordered the oxtail, and it was perfectly seasoned, tender, and full of flavor. My son had the curry goat, which was also incredibly tasty and cooked to perfection.Beyond the amazing food, the atmosphere was wonderful—warm, welcoming, and full of good vibes. We will definitely be back for more. Highly recommended!”

  “We went for a birthday celebration. Our arrival: The lobby was comfortable - after parking I come in to see my crew seated with smiles which is a good sign. Upon finding out there was a birthday the staff took the cake and candles from me and asked whose birthday it was. I went to the bar maybe 15 mins later to get the birthday girl a drink when I learned they were bringing her one on the house awesome gesture. I was slightly concerned because it was a surprise and she's particular about her drinks 😅. It arrived maybe 15 mins later and she liked it! The food: We ordered jerk lamb, popcorn chicken for the kids, bday girl- jerk prawn, jerk sea bass (it may not have been jerk), butter bean and callaloo curry, plantain and jerk wings. Out of what was ordered I tried the wings, plantain, and the lamb. Why I have given the food a 3: The spice balance between authenticity and the western pallet is near enough perfect, but both the lamb and wings were dry. The portion sizes were fair, particularly the plantain which can be skimped on in most cases but we our servings were - 6 quarter inch slices per. Generous. The food was well presented, it was between (right in the middle) fine dining and what you may get at home. Why the service is a 5 (could be a 6): We had 3 kids under 10 with us and they were behaving like young kids do (Up and down a lot, occasionally roaming, attempting to play with other kids). The staff were accommodating and, someone was always ready to serve with a smile. The jug of water: Deserves its own paragraph due to a nice twist - dried lime and lemon slices. The dried slices had more of an impact on the water than fresh ones. A nice detail that I'm mentioning because I hope they keep that. Toilets: Clean! I was surprised to find high quality soap and hand moisturizer. Overall this place is good, and if invited back I'd go. Only improvement would be timings on the meat.”

  “First time visiting mellows after a recommendation from a friend. Tbh I was expecting a lot more since all I have heard is such raving reviews. However, on a arrival we were greeted well and was taken to our table. I was surprised at how small the place was, there was hardly any one in there even though it was a Friday night. The waitress took our food and drinks order. We didn’t have to wait long for our food/drinks. I ordered the curry goat which was tasty but I do think it was overpriced. Decent portion size. The cocktail was okay but couldn’t taste much liquor. We literally just finished eating and the waitress asked if she could provide us with the bill as they were wanting to cash up at the bar. Half an hour later, we was then asked by someone else if we could take our drinks into the bar area as he wanted to clean. We felt completely rushed! Once we sat at the bar, we then noticed the shutters were coming down so we just left. Not even a “bye” or “thank you.” I wouldn’t be returning in a hurry. There are plenty of other Caribbean options to try in Birmingham.”

  “Had a great time at Mellow's. Food was good, I prefer sweet curry goat, it had a little spice but was ok for me, cocktails we're nice, I had mango spice. Our server was hilarious and made us laugh. Night chilled vibe with bashment playing in the background, how I like it 🫶”
