About Shogun Teppanyaki Ltd
Shogun Teppanyaki Ltd is a teppanyaki restaurant in Birmingham, on Wharfside St, with teppanyaki tables, a noodle bar and a conveyor-belt sushi service under one roof. At the teppanyaki tables, chefs cook the food in front of the diners. The sushi runs as an all-you-can-eat buffet. The first round is brought to the table, then guests choose what they want, and each piece is made fresh to order. Hot dishes sit alongside it, including noodles, squid rings and tempura prawns. The restaurant is on the top floor, with very large glass windows and a bar that mixes a Sumo Punch cocktail. A few pictures of sumo wrestlers hang near the steel kitchen. Halal requests are catered to, and the staff and chefs check ingredients for guests who ask.

Customer Review Summary
Sushi draws the most praise, especially the all you can eat format, where reviewers describe fresh, made to order plates and good value. The first round is brought to the table before diners choose their own. Noodles, squid rings, tempura prawns and a chicken spring roll sit close behind, and one reviewer says the kids loved the noodles. The chefs cooking in front of diners are a draw too, and several describe friendly staff and an entertaining night, with the Sumo Punch cocktail singled out as excellent. The criticism is milder but specific. One reviewer found the first round confusing, another did not see tuna on the sushi platter, and a longtime visitor says the chef jokes have become repetitive and the current steel kitchen has less colour and Japanese culture than the previous site. Another calls the top floor a greenhouse in summer because of the large windows. One halal diner describes a chef coming out, unasked, with the teriyaki sauce to show it contained no alcohol.

“Where do I begin? The restaurant is immaculate, everyone has a smile on their faces and the experience is one of a kind in the best way possible. I went with a large group and all the staff from the chefs to the bar made us feel like we are more than just guests. I cant wait to return.”

“The food here is excellent. I've been a few times with the family. My children love it too. The main attraction is the chef, fooling around whilst making your food, as entertaining as it is, I've heard all the jokes and they've told them many times, so now they either mumble them or just say it without the acting. I preferred this place when it was at its previous spot nearer the sea life centre as it had koi fish swimming around little islands that the tappenyaki was performed at. There was also some colour and a sense of Japanese culture. Now, at the cube, it's mainly all steel kitchen and a few pictures of sumo wrestlers. You can see outside and watch mainly delivery companies fly around on their electric bikes, or some characters heading for there night out in the town (this isn't a bad thing, it just reminds you where you are...... Birmingham!) The place is very clean and the staff were very nice and polite. I tell people to go here if I know they're going to Birmingham. (No spoilers)”

“Really good atmosphere, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The cocktails were excellent — especially the Sumo Punch! Service was quick, and the food was delicious and filling too. Would definitely go again”

“Not my first visit here but it was for my partner. It was a little bit quieter than my previous visit. Food was good, we used a Groupon deal so there was a set menu. Would go back again.”
