About Indian Brewery Snowhill

Indian Brewery Snowhill is a restaurant and brewery in Birmingham, set under the railway arches at Arch 15 & 16 Livery St, near Snowhill Station. It makes its own beers, including a Mango beer, and pours them next to a menu of Indian street food, so the drinks and the kitchen share one room. The menu runs to 55 dishes, with Pakora Pops and masala fish and chips among them. A small open kitchen lets diners watch the chef cook. Trains run overhead and can be heard inside. Walk-ins are taken, and tables can also be booked online.

Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the fat naan, loaded flatbreads such as the big plant version and the chicken one, described as filling, spicy and flavoursome. Close behind are the Indian fish and chips, the pakora pops (one reviewer says they are far bigger than the name suggests), loaded keema fries, Indian fried chicken and a mixed grill with butter sauce chips. Beer is the second draw, with the mango beer, Bombay Honey, Indian summer and Corner Shop all named, and staff described as friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The complaints are few but specific. One pre-ordered meal still involved a long wait, one server forgot a second beer, the Naughty Maam was sloppy and hard to eat, and one lunch bill felt slightly too expensive for the style of venue. A visitor who came only for a drink found the rustic atmosphere not inviting and the beers below a nearby taproom's. It can be a little loud when trains go over, which one reviewer says adds character. One server brought extra poppadom condiments and a sample of the in-house chilli sauce.

“Date of visit: Wednesday 2 September It’s kinda crazy that I only discovered this place on a whim, just looking for somewhere to eat that wasn’t Broad Street, Bullring or Grand Central. The Indian Brewery is tucked away under the railway arches near Snowhill Station. We walked from New Street and it was an easy stroll. It’s a cool-looking spot, definitely one for people in the know. Part of me doesn’t even want to publicise it in case it gets too popular! My friend and I came here for lunch. We could’ve booked online, but I took the gamble and walked in right at opening time (12pm). We were greeted by a smartly dressed employee with a gorgeous haircut, handed menus, and told we could sit anywhere. The place was empty apart from two people who clearly knew about this place long before I did. We chose a table at the back with a great view of the tiny kitchen, watching the chef work away. The server took our drinks order, I’m (sort of a) teetotal, so I went for a pineapple-and-apple juice combo. My friend ordered the house favourite, Mango beer. I had a sip: smooth, easy to drink, and apparently good enough that my friend now wants to order a crate. We were offered poppadoms (not free), which were nice, but the real stars were the condiments, some of the nicest I’ve tasted. The menu is surprisingly extensive considering there’s one chef and a tiny kitchen. The masala fish and chips caught my eye. My friend went for the Naughty Maam - basically like a chicken tikka masala-style chicken piled onto two flatbreads. Very tasty, very filling but a bit sloppy and hard to eat. My fish and chips were spicy and absolutely to die for. The server brought extra poppadom condiments (at my request) with our mains and even gave us a sample of their in-house chilli sauce - delicious. Service was good overall, but not as good as it could have been given there weren't overly busy. There was one small slip where the server forgot to bring the second beer (Corner Shop — not as sweet as Mango beer, slightly more bitter but still nice), but it was quickly sorted once they realised. Did I mention it is an actual brewery selling their own beers?! All in all, we paid around £78 for the meal, including drinks and an obligatory service charge - slightly too expensive for the style of venue (I'd say it was a lunch and/or a casual dining place). We loved it and we’re already planning to go back. This place is a hidden gem more people need to know about.”

“Another fabulous meal at the Indian Brewery, thanks for accommodating our group! Fantastic location; under the arches at Snowhill, with a wonderful smiley welcome from all. Great food, as ever(!), and fantastic beer, with knowledgeable staff advising on the menus. I’ve never been disappointed and I am always willing to wait a minute or two longer than the chains for proper food, cooked to perfection right in front of customers!”

“We had such an amazing time at the Indian Brewery – couldn’t recommend it more! The food was honestly incredible, easily the highlight for us. The loaded keema fries and the Indian fried chicken were both unreal – packed with flavour and cooked perfectly. The drinks were just as good (the juicy mango was a standout), and the whole vibe of the place made it even better. A special shoutout to Dillon at the bar who was fantastic throughout – super friendly, gave great recommendations, and really made the experience for us with his top-tier service. Definitely a must-visit if you’re in the area – we’ll 100% be back!”

“Went here with in a group of 7, great beer especially the Indian summer, the food was very good all served together. I had the chicken run fat nan which looked great and tasted even better. Very friendly staff will definitely be visiting again.”

“It was alright, I suppose. We only nipped in for a quick drink after visiting the nearby Attic taproom and, with that in mind, we have to compare it to the experience there. The atmosphere here wasn't that inviting, a bit of a rustic vibe, lacking in cozyness. The beer was also okay, we grabbed a few takeaway cans too to compare, which made it worse as the beers from here couldn't stand up to the high standard of aforementioned establishment.”
