About Happy Lamb Hot Pot 快乐小羊火锅 Birmingham

Happy Lamb Hot Pot 快乐小羊火锅 Birmingham is a hot pot restaurant at 21 Ladywell Walk in Birmingham, serving Inner Mongolian-style hot pot built around a milky broth. The kitchen simmers chicken and beef bones for over six hours to make that base, and the lamb and beef are sliced in-house. Beef and lamb cuts are ordered by the plate, while a buffet section holds vegetables, proteins and seafood options, along with cooked dishes such as chicken nuggets and egg fried rice. Two package tiers are on offer, including an all-you-can-eat set with unlimited meats. Soup bases sit at the table and need refilling with broth or water. The halal menu gives Muslim diners a full set of options, and dessert and ice cream round out the meal. A service charge is added to the bill, and Too Good To Go bags are filled from the buffet.

Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers come for the unlimited meats, with fresh lamb and well-marbled beef cuts drawing the most praise, and one says the plates just keep coming. Close behind is the buffet, where reviewers name vegetables, seafood for pescatarians, chicken nuggets, egg fried rice and ice cream, and one notes a halal menu. One finds the broth so flavourful that no dipping sauce is needed, while another was let down by the bone broth. Service divides opinion and takes up most of the complaints. Several describe slow beef refills, with long waits on every order and one table asking three different people before the plate arrived. Others mention a drink that never came, a premium set with half its items unavailable, and no desserts at weekday lunch. A Too Good To Go bag was described as overly buttery and reheated. One party watched their soup base burn with no staff around to refill it, then found a service charge added to the bill.

“A great place to have some authentic hot pot. The selection of hot food in the buffet is amazing. Also there is plenty of seafood options for pescatarians which is greatly appreciated. However we were not so happy to hear that dessert options are not available for lunch during the week days. That's my biggest complaint.”

“Avoid like the plague. Toxic food, hostile service. If you are looking for stale lamb, immediate diarrhea after getting home, and rock-bottom service, this is the place to be.We visited outside of peak hours, so the restaurant was pretty empty. Yet, the staff—especially a short Japanese waiter—had the charisma of a wet blanket and a freezing attitude. While clearing a nearby table, he slammed the plates into the trolley so violently it made a deafening noise. Both my children and the guests at the next table were visibly startled. Everyone looked at him in disbelief, but instead of apologizing, he continued his aggressive, noisy cleaning with total defiance. To top it off, their Coca-Cola was visibly watered down. Paired with that sketchy lamb, it was a one-way ticket to explosive diarrhea. When ordering, they offer two hotpot options. We went for the more expensive package. Fun twist: only after we selected it did they bother to tell us that half of the items in that premium tier were unavailable today. All in all, a total disaster. Highly not recommended. This place single-handedly ruined my appetite for Chinese food for the future.”

“A fantastic experience. The buffet has a great selection of vegetables and proteins for your hot pot as well as cooked food like chicken nuggets and egg fried rice for those who are a little more fussy. I'm not sure the cost justifies the amount of meat we had, although we could have asked for more. But you're paying for the experience as much as anything.”

“I collected a Too Good To Go bag from here, and unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience. The staff member filled the bag with items from the buffet, but the food was some of the worst I have received through the app. Several dishes had an unusual, overly buttery taste, as though they had been reheated or refried in old oil. The overall quality was poor, and I was unable to enjoy the meal. This experience has completely put me off returning for a hot pot here in the future. Sadly, I would not order a Too Good To Go bag from this venue again.”
