Customer Review Summary
Attentive, welcoming service is what diners raise most, with servers and a manager described as friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and several visits were birthday celebrations. On the plate, the giant king prawn with scallops and spiced breadcrumbs is called the standout of one visit. Close behind are the king prawn starter, Bolognese, veal, mixed grill fish and calamari, and reviewers also mention light pasta and fresh focaccia. Portions are described as plentiful, and one family says the options for their kids kept them happy. The complaints are specific. One reviewer found the lobster bisque in the gambi spaghetti largely lost under tomato sauce, though the server explained the recipe had been softened for milder tastes. Another could not finish a carbonara that tasted like mac and cheese, found the bruschetta plain, and saw staff running around on a busy night. A third notes a slight wait before orders were taken. One birthday table had a waiter help record a video while they sang to their friend.

“We booked this restaurant at the last minute for an 8 pm dinner and were pleased they were able to accommodate us. From the moment we arrived, Simon welcomed us warmly, showed us to our table, and was friendly and approachable throughout the evening. The restaurant was clearly very busy and had a great atmosphere, so there was a slight wait before our drink and food orders were taken. However, once we had ordered, our meals arrived within around 20 minutes, which was impressive given how busy the restaurant was. We decided to share two mains: the Giant King Prawn with scallops and the gambi spaghetti with lobster bisque and tomato sauce, along with a side of mixed vegetables. The standout dish of the evening was undoubtedly the Giant King Prawn and scallops. The giant prawn was beautifully prepared, with the meat cut into bite-sized pieces and served in an incredibly rich, flavourful sauce. The scallops were perfectly cooked and topped with delicious lightly spiced breadcrumbs that added just the right amount of crunch. Every bite was packed with flavour, and it was easily the highlight of our meal. Unfortunately, after such an outstanding first dish, the gambi spaghetti was a little underwhelming. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly and came with a generous amount of sauce, but the lobster bisque flavour was very subtle and largely overpowered by the tomato sauce. It was still an enjoyable dish, but we had expected a more pronounced seafood flavour. When we mentioned this to Simon, he explained that the recipe had been adjusted because some diners preferred a milder seafood taste, which we appreciated him taking the time to explain. To finish, we shared the vanilla cheesecake. It was pleasant and rounded off the meal nicely, although it wasn’t particularly memorable. Overall, we had a lovely evening. While not every dish completely wowed us, the exceptional Giant King Prawn and scallops, combined with Simon’s excellent service, made for a very enjoyable dining experience. Despite how busy the restaurant was, Simon remained attentive, professional and welcoming from start to finish and his service really stood out. We’d happily return, especially for that incredible giant prawn and scallop dish and great service!”

“Table 1- 3 July 2026. We came today to Lucarelli for a quick food and drinks and let me tell you that is the best Italian restaurant in Birmingham. Everyone is really nice, the restaurant is gorgeous and the music is in a perfect volume where you can talk with no problem. It was my friend’s birthday today, and a really nice waiter helped us record a video while we sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to her. We’ll definitely come back soon. Thank you so much”

“I had an absolutely wonderful experience at this restaurant, and a massive part of that was thanks to the incredible manager, Shariya. From the moment we walked in, Shariya welcomed us with genuine warmth and professionalism. Throughout the evening, they went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was perfect—attentive without being intrusive, and handling the entire floor with absolute grace. The food was fantastic, but it is the top-tier hospitality led by Shariya that truly sets this place apart. It’s rare to see such dedication to customer satisfaction these days. Highly recommended, and we will definitely be back!”
