About The Plough Inn, Marsh Gibbon
The Plough Inn, Marsh Gibbon is a 17th Century Grade II listed pub and restaurant on Church St, in the Bicester area. It is under new ownership following a restoration and renovation in 2023. An outdoor bar and kitchen adds a wood-fired oven, rotisserie and grill to the cooking. The indoor menu runs from bar snacks and pub favourites to restaurant dishes and pizzas, with vegan and gluten-free options. Sunday roasts come with giant Yorkshire puddings, and desserts are homemade, including a blood orange sorbet. William Morris print armchairs and wallpaper fill the rooms, and fires burn in the Snug and the bar area. Dogs are welcome, and the dining room opens directly onto the garden and the car park.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers return to most, with several praising giant yorkies and big portions, and a few adding that the pizzas are also good. Homemade desserts come close behind, with blood orange sorbet, tiramisu, vanilla ice cream and rhubarb and ginger sorbet all named. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free guests are described as well catered for, including a halloumi stack with caramelised onions and pumpkin seed pesto that the chef made for a vegetarian diner, with chips called exceptional. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and several mention a warm greeting for their dogs, a toddler being looked after, and owners who stopped to chat. The decor draws praise for William Morris prints and fires in the snug and bar, and the atmosphere is described as calm and quiet. One reviewer's only complaint is wishing the pub were open every day. Another mentions a waitress who shared the history of the building and the village.

“We had lovely lunch with friends who are vegetarian. The chef created a wonderful halloumi stack with caramelised onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and lettuce enhanced with home made pesto made with pumpkin seeds. The accompanying chips were also exceptional. We were told his creation may now be included in the regular menu! My desert of homemade vanilla ice cream and rhubarb and ginger sorbet was delicious way of ending meal. The staff were delightful especially Sam, our waitress. We will be repeating visit on regular basis.”

“We’ve been to the Plough many times through out the last few years and we’ve grown quite attached to it’s lovely team as they are all so kind and easy going. The food is fantastic, do stop in for a Sunday roast or even one of their pizzas. The garden is lively and delightful. My only complaint is I wish it were open everyday! Definitely stop by if you’re in the area.”

“We had a lovely Sunday lunch at The Plough Inn. The food was delicious and came really quickly. The service was brilliant - Helen was very helpful and kind and made sure we were well looked after. There were plenty of other customers but it never felt too busy and it was a quiet and friendly atmosphere. Also dog-friendly which is a big win. I would definitely recommend for a meal!”

“We had such a lovely Father’s Day meal here today. Nothing was too much trouble. We changed our minds about sitting inside or outside a few times, and ended up having starters outside and mains inside. This was perfect as we got to take advantage of the sunshine and let our toddler roam around outside, but still enjoy the beautiful dining area and have our roast dinner around the table. The staff were great with our little boy and the food was all really excellent. The homemade sorbet at the end was particularly delicious! I can’t believe we haven’t visited before, and we’ll definitely be back.”

“A really lovely pub. Nicely decorated, with references to William Morris. Very good food. Very pleasant atmosphere. The staff were professional and friendly. I had the opportunity to speak with the owner of the pub, a truly nice and hospitable lady. I will definitely be back.”

“The Plough Inn is a 17th Century Grade II listed pub and restaurant in the historic village of Marsh Gibbon, ten minutes from Bicester. It is under new ownership and following an extensive restoration and renovation in 2023, is now open to everyone. We stock an extensive range of premium drinks of all types with a superb collection of bar snacks, pub favourites and special restaurant dishes, all made fresh using the finest ingredients under the watchful eye of our Head Chef Declan Davidson. From early spring, we will be opening up our outside bar and kitchen, with a wood-fired oven, rotisserie and grill, to take advantage of all the good weather we are going to get this year! Hope to see you soon...”
