About Boundary Brewery

Boundary Brewery is a brewpub on the A5 in Belfast, owned and run by its members as a cooperative. The brewery makes modern American and traditional Belgian beers, and the taproom pours its own alongside guest beers from other breweries. The tap list is large and includes several IPAs, one of them hazy, plus a stout. A fridge holds cans and bottles to take away. The taproom has plenty of room, with games on the shelves and pinball machines. No food is served, so visitors bring their own from elsewhere. The team explains the beers and gives samples to try. It opens Tuesday to Sunday and closes Mondays, and dogs are welcome. Street parking is on the road outside, with signs restricting one side at certain times.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return above all for the beer range, with taps and a large fridge of cans and bottles that mix the brewery's own beers with guest ones. Visitors single out the IPAs, naming It's My Weakest Sense IPA and The Purpose of Conflict Hazy IPA, with the Untitled Release Stout close behind. One traveller calls it the best beer of a two week trip. Fierce Mild, a 0.5 percent beer, is described as refreshing alongside a sandwich brought in from elsewhere. Staff are called friendly and knowledgeable, explaining the brews and offering samples, and the taproom is repeatedly described as spacious. Food is not served, though reviewers say outside food is welcome. The complaints centre on the beer list. One reviewer found many of the taps a very similar pale ale style, another notes there is no cask, and a third says a Dutch style Weissbier tasted like unfiltered Connswater, so they switched to the stout, which was acceptable. One parent says their son loved the pinball machines.

“The beer from this brewery is outstanding and we had a really lovely afternoon here. There were lots of games on the shelves. We were served by Lucy who was lovely with great beer knowledge and who gave us great recommendations. I would thoroughly recommend this place if you are visiting Belfast and like really good craft beer. It’s very easy to get to on the G1 bus.”

“Spacious taproom with a good selection of beers. They had to close abruptly when I went due to circumstances outside of their control, but kindly let me get some cans to takeaway. A good range of their own plus other breweries including a couple of harder to find ones. Will be back to enjoy something on tap. Worth a visit and combining with Bullhouse East just down the road.”

“Well, the first pint of apparently Dutch style "Weissbeir", was pure unfiltered Connswater. Bleaugh! So I had a pint of their stout. Which was acceptable. Spent a lovely while of an afternoon conversing wi a woman wi greyhounds.”
